When the hills are less than 500m long . Seriously, I notice that a lot of clydesdales can rip it up out of the saddle on the short & steep hills better than those sticks can. I love bursting out of the saddle and leaving my visible-ribbed fellows behind on the incline.
That said, am I even a clyde?

But any hill longer than 1 km... ugh...

Well actually, the "proper" way to climb out of the saddle isn't to shift your weight back and forth between the pedals but to keep your upper body stable and to extend the leg. Anyways, it's fun- so is full tucking on a descent and going faster than sticks who are spinning it out.

Funny how it computes out, isn't it.
196 pounds after ride yesterday, outclimbing people on a fixed gear.
Go figure.

look at 50m runners versus marathon runners, 50 m swimmers versus 1000m, muscle mass can produce quick bursts of speed but a body needs to be pretty light to go long fast.
thats my two cents anyway. and i dont think you're a clyde. you sound lean actually.

I really like those short climbs too, but whats even better is a long downhill run. the extra weight is a blessing, my skinny friends can't keep up no matter how hard they pedal.

Nothing like cresting the top of a 5-6+ mile 2500 ft climb, that's true happiness!
