Goals for the summer?
Anyone want to share their summer riding and weight loss/fitness goals? Mine are:
To ride in the MS 150 City to Shore - both days, the whole thing.
To reach goal weight - 220 pounds.
Get a better bike.
Develop the stamina, skill, and smarts that will enable me to ride cross-country next year.

I'm off for a 24 day tour starting July 1st, then I hope to participate in and finish 2 local races(106 and 75km). I probably won't lose much weight since I eat like a horse while riding but I have already lost 15kg this year, so it's ok.

I had some going into the summer:
-First Metric century: INCOMPLETE (almost made it on Saturday, but the heat kicked my butt 12 miles short of it)
-Finally break the "200 pounds lost" mark: Complete!
Before my shower on Saturday after the "great dehydration fest of 2007" I was at 366, 201 pounds lighter than I was in June of 2005!
-Ride in a for-real race: INCOMPLETE
I have to keep motivating myself to attend the mountain bike race I told everyone I'd race in on July 1.. and not finish last! I know I'll look like an idiot, but if my clydesdale quads can kick some mud in some skinny faces, that'll be worth it!
-Commute to work daily by bike: IN PROGRESS!
Haven't missed a day commuting since Memorial Day, and intend to keep going until the snow flies.. and probably after!
My goals for "before the snow flies":
-Drop below or get within sight of the 300 pound mark - I thought it was impossible, but if I keep it up it may just be a reality!
-Complete my first for-real century - No problem, just no crushed limestone!!
And finally, goals for before August 30, 2008:
-Be below 250 pounds
-Race again, and kick some serious ass!

1) Be able to comfortably ride 100+ miles in a day (I did Hotter than Hell last year after 3 months of riding and wanted to sell my bike afterwards): I have been putting in 75 mile Saturdays, so I am getting there.
2) Get in sight of 200 lbs.: I started last year at 290 and got down to 240 in 3 months, about 250 now (put on some weight over winter and it hasn't fully disappeared yet).
3) Continue to amaze skinny people

Goals to Complete Before September 2007 for Jumbo
Abandon 1 car from the Household:
Right now we have 3 cars in the household, one for each adult. I want to get to a point that I sell off one car, mine.
Climb the steepest hill on my commute route:
I will take some pictures later, but I want to get to a point that I never have to get off the bike to walk.
Edited for Reality: Ride 150 miles or more per week:
Commuting will give me 100 miles a week. I want to be riding 150 miles above that.
Lose 10-15 pounds per month:
Yep. This should be doable and is my altimate goal.

My goals were:
Ride every reasonable day to work - This is going great. after 3 months of riding 10 miles round trip seems so short. I only drive if I have somewhere I have to during the day or the weather is calling for severe thunderstorms.
Loose a little weight - At 6'2.5" and 215Lbs I am not grosly over weight, but loosing about 15 Lbs would be good. My belt is 1 notch tighter, no idea what the actual weight loss is as I don't have a scale at home, but it is going in the right direction.
Lower blood pressure a bit - Blood pressure wasn't that bad, but not great either. Last few time I donated blood my blood pressure reading was definitely better.
Get ready to ride 33 miles in the Ride for Rosewell (major cancer center in Buffalo NY) - That will be happening this Saturday. My last practice ride was 20 miles and I could have gone much further so I should be fine. I did go out and buy some gell bike pants - what a difference on longer rides. Well worth the $38.
I'll have to see how far I can reasonably drive into the Fall and Winter. We get a lot of lake effect snow so winter is questionable. It is not the temperature that scares me, but interacting with cars on slippery roads seems a bit suicidal.

Ride two century rides: the Utah Lake Century and the Moab Century. - Still on target to ride these two rides, the Moab one will be the challenge to finish, it has 3000 ft of climb over 7 miles, but it is still doable

Goals for this summer, in no particular order:
Goals for next summer:
- Complete the Seattle-to-Portland ride in July: ~200 miles in 2 days.
- Commute to work via bike (~12 miles each way, with hills) more often than I drive.
- Get below 240 pounds (15 to go), working toward my target weight of 220 (100 kilos).
- Buy an actual road bike (I'm currently riding a hard-tail mountain bike).
Goals for next summer:
- Complete the full 100 mile Flying Wheels Summer Century.
- Complete the 200 mile Seattle-to-Portland ride one day.
- Attempt a few other long-distance rides.
- Reach my target weight of 220 pounds.

Oh, yeah, goals... I'd say to ride a century by the end of the summer. Next year, ride the Cape May trail. And get under 200 lbs. (My goal weight is 180.)

Goals for this summer:
Good post OP!
- Get fit and continue to commute most days
- Prepare my body for riding centuries
- Ride in at least 1 charity race (This may be hard b/c of finishing thesis, and moving to IL, but it's still a goal)
- Keep my wife interested and training with me

Mine are pretty simple considering I just started riding last Wednesday:
1. Ride every day.
2. Stretch myself a little further on each ride.
3. Continue to lose weight and get my blood sugar levels down to normal
4. And most importantly - Have Fun!

I think that depends on the race, what you want out of the competition, and the condition you are in as a clyde. Those are my thoughts.

Complete a distance of at least 250K in one day.(We'll see this saturday--leave at 430AM, ride from Danbury to Pittsfield, say "Hi Pittsfield!" then turn around and ride home)
Do one extended unsupported tour of at least 450 miles.(still in planning stages)

I share your weight goal of 220 pounds. Currently at 243 and looking at two family reunions this weekend. Hopefully I will gain nothing. Plan to ride to the one reunion to give me a 50 mile round trip. My major goal was to ride my age, 62 miles, with a few extra tenths to yield a Metric Century. Did that in May. Now my riding goals are a bit flat. So will just ride for now. Participate in 7 organized rides, wrapping up the year with Bucks Co. Covered Bridge ride. I am thinking of repeating the Metric Century Sept 8 in Dover, DE. Should be easier in a flat state. Hopefully I can average 15 mph by then. Have no lofty goals for next year, yet. Curious to see what the format of the Tour Across PA is to be for June 2008. That could be an interesting ride.

End of August: The Voyageur Trail along Lake Superior, my first real planned trail ride, 28 miles with a killer hill in the beginning.
