New bike choice

Well, I've decided on the bike I want upgrade to. Lack of some 2007 models (2008 won't be here for a month or two) drove me into a higher price range. The LBS's closest to me carry Trek, Gary Fisher, Giant, and Jamis. Since in Atlanta a 30 mile drive to a closer LBS could be easily an hour drive, I am going to limit myself to these. Here goes - I've decided on a Gary Fisher Montare. It is high end, great frame, and it is really sturdy looking! Everything I can find on it indicates it is a great bike. I am only riding pavement and paved bike trails right now but the mountain bike ruggedness with road manners appeals to me. The only thing I will change immediatly is the clipless pedals - I'm just not one bit interested in those right now!

Any experience with this bike? All opinions welcome as I am going to order tomorrow.

Thanks - kwhman - down 73 lbs and counting (btw - no plans to get below clydesdale size - I like a little mass!)

Great job on the weight loss. Everything I have heard about that bike has been positive.

I ride a Gary Fisher, but a much less expensive model. I am quite happy with it.(Had it about 3 yrs.) My weight is around 255lbs right now and the frame/wheels/ seat are holding up well. the only changes I have made to the bike have been esoteric commuter add ons. (Lights, rack, etc.) Before this bike I had a lower end Trek. the Trek I kept twisting the back wheel out of the frame when I would really jump on the pedals for a hill climb. i have never had that problem with the GF.
