That might seem like an odd question but I'm curious since my weight various significantly throughout the day. My "official" weigh-in is in the morning when I take my shower and I'm at my lightest (around 195). By early afternoon in street clothes I'm well into Clyde territory. Since it's mainly a racing catagory thing, I'd like to know when the official weigh-in takes place and how you are dressed for the weigh-in. I can't say that I've seen the Clydes at a race but my buddy said he was pretty amazed that the ones he saw were all guys that were like 6'6" with 6% body fat and almost as fast as the experts and they kicked his skinny butt. That doesn't sound like a lot of the folks I've read about on these forums though so I don't know what the average Clyde is like or how they are weighed.

Ehhh, 'average' is a tough thing to lock down. Average here would not be your average racer but yes, there are a bunch that kiss ass and take numbers.

I'd probably snoop around on the road racing subforum - they'd have more information in general about races (though I know a good group does here...though I'm not sure how uniformed those weigh-in decisions are).

Like you, I always weigh myself in the morning ( at lightest ) with no clothes. I do this a few times a week to make sure I'm going the right (meaning left) direction.

I used to laugh at women I'd see weighing in at work who took of sweater and shoes and every article of clothing they could take off without being too risque. It wasn't until I started really working at weight loss that I saw how much difference clothes make. I tested it one time and weighed with my clothes on, and again in the buff. It was like a 6 pound difference for clothes (and I wasn't all geared up in heavy winter clothes either).

I've found that my store bought scale is very inaccurate from weight in to weight in so I weight myself at work on a very accurate shipping scale every Friday when I get to work. I know my weight can very due to the clothes I chose to put on that day so I try and wear roughly the same type of clothes every Friday and the same type of shoe and always weight around the same time before having my first tea of the day and breakfast.

I'm pretty obsessed with my weight lately because I'm struggling to get past a hurdle so I don't weight myself but every Friday.

In our area they don't weigh the riders but use the honor system. However I am sure they would produce a scale in the event of a protest.
It depends on the club as to how the weighing would be done. {full riding attire including helmet and shoes or some variation of less attire }

I you want to race, just pick a class, either age or weight, there will be someone in each class that can kick your butt. Take it from someone who gets his butt kicked quite often.

Funny...I found the opposite.

We had shipping scales at work and the doctor type scales (balance beam, etc..). At one point, at my highest, I was over the 350 limit on the doctor style scales, so I embarrassingly used the shipping scales late when no one was around. I found them to be so inaccurate that they may change as much as 20 pounds from weighing once, stepping off and back on to weigh again.

I found a more precise looking scale that went up to like 600 or so pounds at Target and it seems pretty consistent.

I think you'll find though, that one scale may be consistent, but two scales may be quite far off from each other.

I ship for a living so I jump on the shipping scale in the mornings about 2-3 times a week. Shipping scales "should" be very accurate because they should be calibrated annually to assure accuracy. I wear pretty much the same basic clothes every day so I don't worry about the weight of my clothes and steel toe boots, I just use the weight as a reference for how much I've lost.

I used to weigh myself on the calibrated in-floor scale we used for weighing bulk chemical solutions during formulation. Accurate to 1/10 kilogram.

I did a few triathlons in the Clyde category about 5 years back, there was no official weigh in but the sign in was the afternoon before the race in both cases.
I fall into the low body fat tall guy category but am clearly well over 200 so maybe they just didn't bother asking.

As I said, I bought it at Target. I don't see the same one on their website, but here's one that looks very similar with 400 pound capacity (like mine).

Just go in to a Target store and look for ones with high enough capacity....then try to see if they look very precision. Not that any at consumer range are probably thaaaat precision. I just base it on looks...these looked more professional than the cheapos that are just a square that give a digital number when you step on. I prefer to see the analog ones....and you can calibrate it too.

If you are an Uberclyde, and you want to keep a weight record, most hospital PT Departments have a scale for wheelchair use and those go up to 750 pounds generally and are medically accurate. Call them and usually, you can drop in far a free weigh in if that helps answer the extension of the question of what to do if you are over standard scale limits (I used to be!).

I use the truck scales at work. Certified to one part in 20,000. The bike and I were 265 lb. Scales go to 100 tons.

Thanks again KT. Tom I'm only 270 so I'm not quiet an Uberclyde but what I've noticed with mine is it could be off by about 10 pounds any given day. I've got such large feet (Size 15) that my thoughts were I just wasn't getting positioned perfectly each time. I'd really like to try to find something accurate for the house.

It's not the same brand as the one I have, but the Target one I linked was specifically a "big foot" scale it claimed.

Yea, I figure what I can do is weight myself at work and head directly to the store.... Im just looking for something a little more accurate than my current model.
