Jumbo are you too tired to check BF?
We're wondering how you are doing with Big Liberty Blue and commuting through the wilds of St. Charles.:)

:D
I have been reading, but had nothing to add. There was a problem with my stem being loose, but I resolved that. The riding has been fun and has been getting easier. Unfortunately mother nature is dumping wet on me. |
It has been sucky weather this week. Unpredictable and T-Storm threats every day. T-Storms cancelled my planned inaugural commute this week and also tonight's tire test.
Supposed to be nice this weekend and most of next week, though. At least that is what the weather says 'today'. lol |
what is this rain you speak of? ;)
|
I have yet to get proofhide for my brooks, so water scares Liberty.

Still enthusiastic. The rain has me a bit frustrated leaving me with nothing positive to add to the boards.

We want an update every day!

My riding update 6/29/30
Rain |
Yeah. What happened to the nice and clear forecast. They were off a bit. I am going to get in a ride tomorrow morning if it isn't raining. Supposed to be clear early when I typically do my weeked rides. So they say anyway.
|
There is a break in the rain right now so I will give a ride a try. I will bring some plastic bags for the old seat if I get caught in the rain.
|
Forget the bags. I ride a Brooks too, ride in the rain now and then as well. Trust me on this one, a little extra moisture over and above your sweaty bottom will not cause it to melt. Just bring it in the house after the ride and let it dry normally in the A.C. If anything, it will only speed up the molding to your sepcifics.
Oh and by the way, good on you for getting out. |
The Ride
The ride was wonderful. It was not the longest or fastest to be presented on these forums. Wolves did not attack me from all sides, not even puppies. It was a ride of solitude down a flat path hidden by a tunnel of trees. The Missouri river flowed on one side and the foliage covered cliffs of that rivers ancient banks loomed on the other. A variety of birds flew about and blessed me with their songs.
Eventually the tunnel opened to reveal the river in its full majestic glory. A half rainbow faintly shimmered across the far bank. Finally my turnaround point was sounding ahead. A roar, a man made waterfall of vehicles crossing a major bridge. The trip was only 12 miles at 12 mph average. On the return trip I tweaked my hamstring. The tempreture was a glorious 64f and all was right with the world. Cycling is not a state of mind, but it produces a state of mind. Liberated on a Friday night by Liberty, Big Liberty Blue. |

Jumbo -
I think you found "it". And by "it", I mean the thing that keeps us all cycling. It's the peace that it brings that really nothing else can manage. Along the way, you got a impressive average speed! 12mph is by no means anything to scoff at, that's a great average for that distance. I found "it" again last weekend. Riding downhill on a highway when Pink Floyd's "Learning to Fly" came on the iPod. I can't explain the peace I felt as my legs pumped away, passing 30mph and just enjoying everything about it. I told my fiancee that it was probably as close to Heaven as one could get on earth. Congrats my good man, and keep up the inspiration. |

Calling Jumbo, come in Jumbo, I can't quite make out what it is you are trying to say.....
|
Sounds like you had a great ride! This area has some great peaceful trails. There are a bunch of them that I want to ride. Haven't even made it over to your side of the river yet to ride.
