Advice on new bike purchase
I stopped into my LBS to see what was out there as far as new bikes went. I currently ride a no-name mountain bike with non-knobby tires from Dick's. That was a horrible purchase. Anyways, they guy at the shop suggested a Trek 7.2FX for $429.99. That is right at the top of my price range so if I pick it up I want it to be a great deal. I've searched in the Clyde forum for mention of this bike, but I couldnt find anything. The shop also offers six months of free tuning. In case you are unfamiliar with the bike, it is here.
Thanks for your help. :) |
A couple of the Clyde's have that bike and have had good luck with it.

That's good to hear. After giving it a test ride, I love it. I guess the real decision now is buy it this weekend (maybe even in time for the Indy NITE ride, Tom ;)) or wait a month until I have a little more spending money.

This is a good bike. I think you will like it and it will serve you well until you are ready to move to the next level. There are several other members that have this series of bike and all seem to like. BDinger has the 7.3

I roll on the Trek 7200. Other than the suspension fork, I don't know what the difference is. I've had pretty good luck. The stock wheelset lasted until mile 2,000 when I popped a couple of rear spokes. Since the wheels were hand-built with DT spokes I haven't had an issue. I'm nearing mile 5,800.

I test rode one the other day and really like the balance and size of it. I was looking for something faster so I kept looking. The 7.2 would make a great entry level bike and I wish I have bought one(or similar) instead of my nav 300 when I purchase 2 years ago.

I have the 7.3FX and have put close to 1,000 miles on it so far without a problem. I love my bike (although I am beginning to lust over road bikes) I just looked at my receipt and noticed that I payed $449.00 for it from my LBS. I wonder if there is some wiggle room on the price? Maybe your cost of living is higher than mine in Ohio?

jaxgtr, I need your LBS ;) Mine didn't mention anything about a discount or gift certificate.
Huzzah, 429,99 is the MSRP for the 7.2FX. According to www.trekbikes.com, the MSRP for the 7.3FX is 529.99. Hopefully I can get a similar deal and get it for 349.99 :p I'm going to check out the other bike shop near me tomorrow and I found out today there's also a community run bike shop here too. I guess it's like a co-op but for bikes instead of food. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have a bike. :) |
