"Fat man on a tiny bike"...goes really fast.
Remember Chris Farley's SNL skit where he starts singing, "Fat man in a little jacket?" As a clydesdale rider, I've gotten more than a chuckle from the local club and LBS folks, riding up and singing out loud, "Fat man on a tiny bike!" In fact, enough people talk about it that I've had strangers (all clydes) cross my path on the MUP and sing it out to me.
Well, this morning before work, I catch a ride with a buddy downtown to pick up a load of old beaters to fix up for the neighborhood kids when we pull up next to a big ol' clyde. He pulls up in the left of three lanes in the one-way downtown (with a 25mph speed limit) and waits for the light to turn. I notice the car in front of us contains a couple people who are now pointing at the guy on the bike and are being a bit animated, and finally yelled something out the window to him that I couldn't really hear. The light turns green and everybody starts rolling down the street. The car in front of us pulls up next to the biker and revs his engine, and the clyde just turns to look at him and gives this kind of half smirking smile at which point all I manage to get out of my theme song is, "Fat man on a ti -- HOLY CATS!" as this pot bellied cycling god drops the hammer and ramps up to at least 30mph! We were doing a mile or two over the speed limit and this guy was leaving us behind. He holds this speed for 8 blocks before we get another red light. We pull up to him and I climb out the window, sitting in the door, and with my arms reaching skyward yell, "WOOOOOOOO!! You freakin' rock!" and he shoots me a grin and a nod before pulling a burrito out of his backpack and actually putting a packet of hot sauce on it. Totally made my day. -bobby |

Very neat! That needed to be on video.

It's your party :)
If your pals come to the party with you, roll with it but don't let it go sideways. Always have fun, even if you are changing. |
