Southeast Michigan Ride
Tried a great new place to ride in SE Michigan this weekend (for all of us who have not fled this festering sore of a state yet). They connected three Metroparks (Lower Huron, Willow, and Oakwood) with a paved trail, round trip is 30 miles (We did the whole thing). Although I saw a lot of bikes, the trail never felt crowded, and almost no kids on Wal-Mart bikes! At least 1/3 of the riders I saw were 'Clydes like me. It was a good mix of open trail, woods, small hills, very few road crossings, only $4 to get into the first park. I rode with the wife, so average speed was down around 12-13mph, but I felt comfortable cranking it up to 16-20mph every now and then. I would recommend you give it a try if in the area. I plan on going back by myself and trying an all-out hard ride for the full 30 miles.

Don't put me in that catagorie. I LOVE Michigan, and I love the eastside.
True we are going through some tough times with the Auto Industries, but when the going get tough.... you know the rest....
In my opinion if you don't like it.... Don't let the door hit you in the azz
Also what is your problem with somebody riding a "Wal-Mart" bike?
Who are you to judge them. Maby that is all they could afford!!!!!!!
That would be the same as somebody looking at you, and calling you lazy slob, because you are a clyde.
Anyway, yes there are some great trails out here.
I put in 30 myself Saturday riding the Clinton River/Macomb Orchard Trail
Next time lets try not to be so judgemental of others.
I support my LBS, but not everybody is in my situation where they can afford to by a nice bike.
Should somebody just stay home, and not enjoy these great trails, beacuse they can only save $100 for a bike?
Treat others the way you would want to be treated my friend.

All he did was state an observation.
And I say this in a "hey, you'll get a kick out of this when you think about it" and not in a "I'm better than you because I'm an A&S argumentative god" kind of way. (aka: just making a satire joke)

SE Michigan ride
Nothing meant by the "Wal-Mart" statement!!! I was using an expression to describe what you sometimes see on public bike trails- lots of little kids with parents that oftentimes clog up a trail to the point that it can be a safety issue with adults flying down the trail at higher speeds. I have no problem with this, they have every right to a public trail as I do, I just threw it in for the benefit of some riders that don't care for those type of trails, especially those that like to ride at higher speeds and don't like to stop and start and swerve around little kids. By the way, the link is https://www.metroparks.com/. Stoney Creek is also an excellent place to ride- you can ride the trail or the road that goes around the lake (I work a half-mile from there). You see a LOT of riders there on weekends, especially recumbents.

I was at Stony on Sunday and even with the drizzle the bike path and road were full of riders. The mountain biking trails weren't very crowded though, which was fine to me!!
AeroJoe, do you do any trail riding? I'll be heading up there again this coming Sunday if you want to hook up in the dirt with me.
