That's generally my problem. Well, not really. If I go straight home, and go hard I can get home as fast or faster than in the vehicle. But I generally enjoy going the "long long why am I going this way?" way home instead, and that generally puts me home at 6pm. Kind of sucks because the kids go to bed at 8pm, but that's allright. Same with the mornings, I like to leave at 7:30 instead of 7:50 when biking so I can get a nice distance in before work.
Anyway, bravo Neil! You might try doing the whole multi-mode commute, which I know several who do. That is, drive the car with the bike on the back, then ride home. Ride back, drive home. Etc etc. Logistically if you only have one vehicle it may become a pain, but an idea.
I know that a 20 mile commute would be.. crazy.. for me. Are you lucky enough to have shower facilities there?
