Test Video

I rigged up a handlebar mount for my Digicam, and here's the result of a little test shoot today! Soon as I figure out a better way to mount I will, because my Brake Cable is in the frame, but hey, let me present....Days of Summer!

It's a rigid mount on the handlebars......not a steadicam There's going to be some wobble as well as vibration, because it's right above the headset pivot point. Considering it cost me $2.99 to set up, I think it did reasonably well

Here's the mount!
I have a tabletop tripod from Meijer strapped to the stem.

An unreported conversation that occurred with the video shoot:

Trooper Lawdog: Mr. Stormcrowe, I'm Trooper Lawdog, with the Indiana State Highway Patrol, do you know why I pulled you over today?

Tom Stormcrowe: Uh, no Officer, I don't.

Trooper Lawdog: Well, Mr. Stormcrowe, it's my duty to inform you that you are under arrest for speeding...

Tom Stormcrowe: But....

Trooper Lawdog: And for that little ummm shall we say... rolling stop...

Tom Stormcrowe: But, but....

Trooper Lawdog: And you seem to be having a LOT of fun. Maybe too much. What are you on son?

Tom Stormcrowe: uhhhh nothing sir, unless endorphins count

Good video Tom, and it did not make me even the least bit queasy.

Yep, I'm setting up to get video from my Century ride over in Kokomo next weekend. I might get some video from a high speed downhill run this weekend too! That ought to make for some good video!

OK.... that remarkably smooth video.

I was going to tell you the trick of the beanbag as a seat for the camera, but you've convinced me to try this. I need a smaller camera, though. Even my still cameras are huge.

Cool video. You are a genius. On the second video, was that the wind blowing at mach 1 into the mic? I want to try something like that and post my commute.

Lawdog, you forgot the U-turn.

They are a little spendy, but a helmet cam munted on the bars, would be the way to go if you wanted to make some great videos.

Agreed, but I don't have the bucks and I DO have the Samsung! A $2.99 tripod and 4 zip ties seem to help out nicely. I do need to stabilize the camera a bit more though.I may wind up doing a complete redesign though, go to a T platform and clamp with U Bolts and wing nuts, but this works for now.

I watched my bars on my ride today - I do weave around a lot. Never noticed. I guess it's a subconscious thing I do to balance. How the heck do those tour de france guys ride so close together.

All three pieces of video have a harsh greenish cast to them, don't know if it's your camera, your computer or mine, but with the less then steady video, and the green cast, excuse me a sec:

bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech

Ah, that's better..

It's my video software, it has trouble processing DivX MP4. That will be fixed soon though!

I'll post a color corrected version tonight or tomorrow.

Now if you could just get the license number and email that video to them. Sure would beat chasing someone down and beating them. I need that setup.

Tom, you have inspired me and I am sure my wife will hate you for it.

Thanks
