clyde saddle suggestion

Hey guys,

I'm loaning my old 26" mountain bike to an old friend, and he hopes to be able to use it as a launch pad to losing some weight. However, before dropping it off with him, I want to make sure it has a nice comfortable saddle on it, and I'm reasonably sure my preferred saddle (specialized toupe) will not work at all..

He's probably on the larger side of most of the clyde forum participants, weighing in probably around 360-380lbs. Any suggestions you can give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken

Weight has little to do with your sit bones therefore the small saddles work just as good on a clyde, once they get over the notion that big people need big saddles. I started out at that weight and I couldn't imagine riding one the big old cushy saddle that I started with. That thing was most of my problems. Once I went to smaller saddles I found my groove.

OK, what saddle are you using? I ask simply because I want to make sure that whatever I get will handle him.

Thanks.

I'm using a Brooks B-17 which seems to be a very popular saddle. The down side is the break in period.

I'm hovering in the 340-350 range. I've been using a Brooks B-67 (sprung) for the past 2,800 miles or so.

If you're looking for a comfort saddle, I have one that's just sitting around the house, you can have it. It looks like this:

I've since replaced it with a very similar saddle (the new one has springs). PM me if interested.

I'm sporting a Selle Anatomica. My butt loves it.

When I was that size, I loved my Terry Liberator saddle. I don't like the ones with gel, but the sit-bones are pretty wide, and the nose is not too...pokey. I've never liked the few Brooks saddles that I have tried, and now prefer a very firm/hard Specialized Alias 155cm (widest one they make), and I also like the Terry Fly saddle. Different people like different saddles. One fast way to start an argument in a local rider goup, is to either put down someone's favorite seat, or start talking politics...hehe

I started with the Specialized Alias...at 300 pounds it worked well for me. I lost some weight and about 250 switched to a Toupe (same width) It did not take any getting used to. The switch was seamless....Who ever designs there saddles mu have an ass just like mine. I have owned a few and they all worked well for me. A saddle is something I don't shop for anymore...I am 150% happy with my Toupe....
