Ooooooooooooooow!
Typing left handed here and doped up! I had a little crash this morning on a trail. The bike just went out from under me in a curve. 47 yr olds don't bounce as well as kids do, it seems! It wasn't even a fast crash, just a tight technical turn at about 10 mph. No damage to the bike and i5t'll be a couyple of days at least before I know if I blew the shoulder.

Yep, where do you think I got the good pain pills.
Had to call the wife and everything. When I hit the ground, I heard a good crunch out of the shoulder and I can't raise the arm laterally. No broken bones is all I know at this point.

Ouch. Hopefully it's not a seperation and the crunch was something like a rock trapped under a pedal or something..

OMG Tom! That lack of lateral movement can mean many things and none of them are good!
BTW I have a theory as to why you fell...... I surmise that the glare off of your newly revealed cheeks was so intense it through your sense of equilibrium go wacky. Although you tried mightily to overcome the disequilibrium, (it's fun to make up words!) mother nature and gravity ultimately won leaving you to shoulder, (honest to god I couldn't help myself) the blame.
I can empathize Tom. A little over four weeks ago I twisted my ankle so severely that yesterday was the first day I went, (tentatively and not very far) without crutches. Currently my physical therapist feels that I could be on a stationary bike in a couple of weeks. I know it will be incredibly boring but I am looking forward to it.
I now have a visceral definition of the phrase "cabin fever". I am hoping your shoulder heals mucho faster than my ankle!!

Sorry to hear about your crash,Tom. Take it easy, may be several weeks before you can get back on bike.
I know how hard it is to have an injury in the peak of the season. I crashed hard back in March and it took me almost 4 weeks to get back on a bike plus 6 weeks of PT on my right shoulder. Now I am better than new.
You will be too! Get well!

To be in step with the posters before me, I will say "Hope it heals quick". But, the realist in me says "Oh Man that Sucks and may be a problem for a while". A couple years ago I torqued my left shoulder running whitewater in Arkansas. Shoulder tears and seperations are common in that sport. Anyway, I tore mine just a little and did not dislocate. I was 10 months before I really felt back to normal. The big problem was that at night I would re-injure it in my sleep. Seek therapy. Trying to deal with it yourself is not wise.
Best of luck to you. But hey! You now have a great story to tell. Embelish the hell out of it. You are in a sling and everything.
See ya
Jay

I hope you heal well soon too! My last crash took my left shoulder out of wack. I could still ride but not do any other normal stuff for almost a month. Strange huh?

Some stock answers to the question, "What happened to you?"
1. The first rule of Fight Club is - you do not talk about Fight Club.
2. There were six of 'em.
3. There I was, halfway up the Great North Face of Everest, when my Sherpa slipped and plummeted into a crevasse...
4. You'll get nothing from me, you Nazi *******s!
5. All I said was, "Harleys are for sissies. Real men wear lycra!"
6. If Jackie Chan can do all his own stunts, so can I!
Seriously, bro, I hope you're back on the road real soon. Typing left-handed is more wearing than you'd think, and Dr. House to the contrary, Vicodin is overrated.

You may want to pick up a digital audio recorder, then you can record lectures and assignments for school, most universities have some people who can help with typing papers and such. Talk to the university folks, there may be disabled assistance programs, don't be afraid to use such, right now, your disabled, you may be fine in a week or two, but at least you can keep mostly up.

Hey Tom. Tough luck on the crash. I hope you are better very soon.
Some ice may be of help on that shoulder for the first 24-48 hours. Good luck!

That is just the saddest looking photo. It's scary, how things can go from normal to major life impact in just a few seconds. I hope it's better than you think it is....
