Lots of wheels on sale... This Clyde is tempted
Hi,
I have a nice set of wheels. Anbrosio Excellence rims on Ultegra hubs. The rims are just like Open Pros but an ounce heavier. I run the somewhat heavy Marathon Racers on them.
There are sales on fancy wheels all over the place right now. What I'd like to do is
have 2 sets of wheels. It'd be nice to have a set of light wheels and Vredstein Fortezza 25c tires for group rides and such.
Of course, even on sale the cost is punishing. Sure, the price is great, but it's still several hundred bucks. Which makes me feel silly, I am primarily a slow distance guy, I was never built for speed. But still... shaving 2 or 3 pounds off the wheels
is VERY tempting.

can you tell me some places that have some good deal on wheels right now? im looking for a new mountain bike wheel set (rear wheel)
also, do you know if you can run a disc hub with v brakes, assuming the rim supports it? i have disk brake setup on my frame and would consider upgrading in the future, but not right now, just need the wheels.

You don't say how much you weigh, but I vary between about 230 and 250, and I've had trouble every time I've tried to get fancy with wheels. Fewer than 32 spokes seem guaranteed to go out of true about once a week. Both my road bikes now have 36-spoke wheels front and back, with Deep V rims on the Atlantis and I forget what on the Rambouillet (I bought that used and just can't remember offhand). They're a little heavy, but I don't spend any time working on them, which suits me fine.

I read your other post. What you want is quality. In a 26 inch wheel you will have to do huge drops to mess up a good 32 spoke wheel. I never managed to break a spoke. I hit a pothole the size of a truck doing 30 on a Mtn bike once, I bent a spoke and had to replace it. But considering I thought I was going to die, I am not complaining. The wheel was just a stock 32 spoke wheel with an Araya rim that came with the bike.
