Full Sus Race bike for a Cylde

Hi all I am a clyde and I am damn proud of it at 225lbs. I doubt I will ever get below 200lbs. I am training for an up coming race series starting January and I am looking for a frame that can handle a cylde bouncing around on it. Any input? I am looking at everything as I am just starting to shop. If there is a frame I should stay away from please speak up. I will be building up the frame with mostly XT or X9 parts

Looking for something study that is not carbon (I am hell on carbon anything)
I would like between 3-5 inches of travel
Not to worred about weight but would like light.

I already have my wheels for this bike mavic 819 laced to hope pro 2 hubs now I need a frame
Thanks in advance for any help I am given.

I haven't worked with mountain bikes in 8 or 9 years so I'm behind on the technology. If I were you I'd be suspicious of the lighter classes of race/XC full suspension bikes. I learned my lesson the hard way that durability is more important than weight for guys our size. Back in the day I went through a number of high end suspension forks before I found something that would handle my 200 lbs (Marzocchi).

I'd maybe post over in the mtb subforum and see what larger riders think of as being durable these days. There might be a lighter xc oriented bike that can handle larger riders, but I'm guessing you probably want to go with a heavier bike.

It'd be cool if you could let us know how your search goes. I have no helpful advice, but a full suspension race bike is probably next on my list. I'm also 225, damn proud of it, and probably not going to be under 200 ever.

Haven't ridden any yet, but the Kona Dawg bikes look like they've got some potential.

Right now I am looking at the Titus Racer X. A LBS has one built up in my size for me to ride. They are going to let me ride (beat it up for a couple of days) and see how I like it. It is the LBS head wrench personal bike and he is a cylde also (250lbs) and he has a couple of races under his belt with it (I think one or two seasons). I now he uses it as his main trail bike also. He has well over a 2000mi on it. He loves it and he thinks I am going to fall in love with it when I take it out. I will let yall know waht I do and if yall are interested in it I will try to post a cylde race report. I am thinking of hitting up a local cyclecross race in the fat tire class.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Personally if I were looking for a race bike like you are describing I would go with something by Kona. They make some awesome bikes that can really take a beating. I've done a lot of races where I have seen bigger guys racing on them and they always seem happy.

I'd look into a Specialized Stump Jumper FSR Pro. It's a bit on the burlier side of xc bikes, but is still nice, light and pedals and handles great.

Good suggestion as well. I see a good bit of the not so skinny guys on those as well. Great bikes with a great warranty.

I've ridden an old Specialized XC hardtail for the last 10 years and its been a fantastic bike. The FSR is a great design.
