My Saturday Clyde Ride..Pineywoods Purgatory @ Lufkin, Texas
The rides consisted of 25 , 52, 72, 102 mile rides through the scenic Pinewoods hills of East Texas. We had rainshowers but no lightning and the rain didnt stop anyone. The East Texas scenery was magnificent as always and there were some decent climbs that left some riders walking their bikes. I used my 39t * 25t combo alot and wished I had a larger cassette like 32 t lol!! I originally was gonna do the 102 but after the first 25 miles, I opted for the 72 miles,"the hills were gettin to me". 72 miles in 4 hrs 15 min ride time, 4:40 total time, so I averaged about 17 mph which surprised me because on some of those climbs I was prolly doing about 6 mph. Of course there were some nice descents too!! Only fair!! The rest stops were well stocked and I enjoyed chatting with the other riders. Steak and Chicken Fajitas and a live band greeted everyone back to the Civic Center. I wished I could have stayed for the festivities which includes a street dance later that evening. Lufkin really knows how to host a ride and I will be back next year. Check out the pics. Im the chubby, rain-sweat-soaked guy in the LSU shirt. By the way I had to get back home to see LSU beat Florida Sat nite.. Geaux Tigers!!!

That actually looks like a pretty nice ride, although I think the road in pic 5 could use a significantly better shoulder. They weren't like that all the way, were they?
Anyway, congratulations! Bet that bridge was fffuuuunnnn to ride over

Whew!! If the E Tex hills got me, hate to think what Arkansas might do to me.. Unix, prolly 20 miles of the 72 had no shoulder to speak of but thank God the traffic was very light on those stretches. All major intersections had police blocking traffic and letting the bikers through with almost no stopping. This is only my 3rd organized ride, but by far the best so far!
