First 100 mile
week. :o
Put a bike up on a trainer at home, so I am getting in a few more days of riding. Normally, I am limited to riding at the hotel on whatever bike they have in the exercise room. Now, I can get in another day on Friday, which has eluded me most weeks. Hopefully, there is more good stuff to come! |

Are you planning on a century next year? I'm planning on my first next year, and from the sound of it, you'd be ready no problem. |
I'm planning on one in June of next year, 60mi charity rides in the spring. I'm doing 30-50 mile rides once a week, and 20 mile rides twice a week. I figure by May I should be able to do 80 miles in my sleep. At that point, 100 should be easy enough.

Wow. 20 miles I can fathom. Beyond that is tough for me to even consider at this point. Most of my miles have been on a MTB on local, unpaved trails. I picked up a roadie a while back, but have not had the occasion to really see how it will roll over a long distance.

All other things equal, one mile on a MTB can be a lot tougher than one mile on a road bike. You're doing better than you think.

Good luck with your goals. I suspect a trainer is harder than a "real" bike too so you will be flying. Or maybe thats just me. Psychological I suppose. You're doing the right thing, keep it up!

Wooo hooo! Another one.
Slowly but surely, things are getting easier. My backsides still hurts on longer rides, but even that has gotten better. Now if I could just do something about my weight. I started riding pretty regularly in April, and have increased my mileage pretty consistently since. I dropped about 30 pounds between January and June, but have really not lost much since. I'm trying to get in more miles to speed that process along, but with no luck. |
One thing that I have been figuring out is that a "century" is highly variable in terms of effort required. Some guy out in the mountains is figuring to go over half the mountains in the county before he's done, with the effort something on the order of running a marathon, while down on the coast, just about anybody that can leisurely pedal for 8 hours could do it.

Thanksgiving ended my streak at 2 weeks. Time to start a new one.
