New Ride
Well after I took the Peugeot MTB and streeterizred it I the bug and began my search for a road bike. Went to several LBS and just looked. Most carry the same lines, so I just soaked up all the info I could. I took some test rides and well it just made the want more. Get to the point I went to a LBS to check out the Specialized and Trek and ended up walking out with an Orbea Onix. The Onix was a closeout '07 with Ultegra and frankly I could not touch a Specialized or Trek with the same components for the price. I also ask about weight 270 and LBS said Specialized did not recommend the Carbon Forks or Seatpost over 240, Trek did not have any weight restrictions that he was aware of. Do not know if thats talk, but the had more Specialized and Treks that anything else. I contacted Orbea about the weight and they responded "No problen, bring it on".
The LBS did a great job of fitting the whole bike. Spent time before the sale to ensure that the seat and leg positions were correct and after the sale adjusted the bars and seat tilt etc.
So I am off to the promised land of a thinner, learner me and I really like the Onix, it has a great ride. We are expected to have a mild dry winter here in Texas, so I look forward to getting in some mileage and building my endurance.
Thanks to all on the board for their insight into this worderful new passion.

Oh you have to be kidding me! You tease us with a Orbea Onix purchase and don't post any pictures!
I'm really glad to hear about the weight that Orbea's can take. Orbea was close to the top of my very short list for my upgrade after next season. I was worried about them handling my weight. Orbea just moved to #1 on my list.

I will try to get some pics for you tonight. Trek did make it happen though with thier 12 months no payments and interest. I intend to pay it off very quickly as the interest rate is sky high.
Caincando1 FYI here is the reponse I got from Orbea
"There are no weight limits on our frames. They all come with a lifetime warrantee on defect and a 1 year cosmetic warrantee. So bring it on, we got ya covered. Thanks"

Interesting about the specialized. I was in the LBS the other day talking to them about an 08 road bike with carbon fork and seatpost and the LBS guy didn't seem to have a problem with my weight and the Allez Elite, nor did he think the wheels would be an issue. Hmmm, maybe I should check with specialized directly.
