That was one awesome present Miss Santa delivered, if she don't have a bicycle already maybe you could pick her up one for New Years, that way you two can ride together and share the experience. Having a dedicated partner will help motivate you on the days you just don't feel like riding...that and drafting...I'll leave it at that
If your new to biking the best thing I can think to tell you would be to drink often and stay at it. If your going to be riding on the streets stay alert, predictable, visible, follow traffic laws, and ride with the traffic. The people in the A&S forum will be "happy" to explain why. Everyone starts somewhere, it wasn't all that long ago when it was all I could do to ride a 3 mile loop. Oh, and my number one bit of advice to new riders is rubber side down. The rest is just details.
