Positively Giddy (BLOGish)

So...umm, I really need to post this somewhere so that I don't explode in bike geekery all over my girlfriend. I'M GETTING A NEW BIKE. A Surly Steamroller, the frame came today but there are a couple of parts still on the way (handlebar and such). The point being I got to play with my new frame today (and don't you act like you've never done it), touch the welds, realize how much tighter this bike is going to be then my old bike. I just needed to share.

Oh, and to make this more appropriate for this forum...I've lost like 30 pounds over the last 6 months or so. I was at a very solid 285 and am now down to a weirdly svelte 250. Weird things happen when you sell your car for a motor scooter, and your geared road bike for a single speed road bike. Anyhow I'm done now, thanks for letting me vent.

Awesome! When you get that Steamroller put together, pictures are appreciated.

PS: Where are you in Portland? I used to live in Milwaukie.

I want pictures now, and during assembly and when complete!!!!

And no, I haven't played with the frame, but I also haven't assembled my own bike yet.

Hehe, I'm afraid pictures will have to wait for a bit. I am actually on Hawthorne Blvd in Portland. Nice spot, I can get pretty much anywhere in the city within 20 to 30 minutes.

Details!?

What kind of build are you doing? Single speed? Fixed? Flip-flop? Drops? etc... etc... etc...?

I had a steamroller but I realized that it was a wee bit small for me so I opted for a new frame. But I do still have a warm fuzzy spot in my heart for that bike.

It'll be a fixed gear with a flip flop rear wheel. I'm basically transferring all the parts from my old fixed gear over except I'm getting new front brake, handlebars, and headset/stem.

Let's see here, BIKE CHECK:
Frame/Fork: Surly Steamroller 59cm
Wheels: Sun Rhyno Lites with Continental Gator Skins on them (I believe they're the 26c size)
Cranks: Sugino mightys
Pedals: Speedplay frogs (paired with my Sidi Blazes they're a very nice setup for me at least)
Handlebars: Nitto Noodles

That's about it, my rear wheel has a flip/flop hub on it that's never been flipped over so the freewheel side is very pretty and clean.

Took her out for the maiden voyage and I gotta say I like it. It feels like a bike, but very solid, and extremely comfortable. Funny thing is I got heckled today by a messenger, might just be weird luck but that never happened on my old bike (a fixed gear Raleigh Grand Prix). Oh well I'm pleased as hell and now I have a Flickr account.

Edit: man I'm kind of new at this and it doesn't seem to want to show the pic so HERE'S A LINK

Sweet ride! I thought about WHITE handle bar tape myself, but seems like it might be hard to keep nice. Looks great though

hehe yeah the white bar tape is a bit of departure, but to be honest I don't really care if it stays white and it was the only color they had in the tape I wanted so there you have it.

hahah, that's a pretty bad picture. I guess it does serve to prove that I do indeed own a bike. I'd take a better picture but I'm pretty sure you all wouldn't want to fawn over my new bike the way I do and will. Most of all thanks for letting me dork the hell out and post pictures of my bike. Time to go riding.
