8.8 down. 1999.2 to go...

After about 6 months off the bike due to an injured foot (stress fracture and inflamed joint) I attempted my first ride of the year today. Kasia and I did a short, gentle, slow ride around the neighborhood -- less than 9 miles in about 1 hour. Not exactly a blistering pace.

The good news: The foot seems to be OK. Time will tell, of course, but for now it feels great.

The bad news: Where did my endurance go? And when did the hills around our neighborhood grow? They must be twice as long and steep as they were last year.

Oh well, one baby step at at time...

2008 in 2008. I like it! Good luck!

It doesn't take me 6 months to lose my stamina. 3 weeks -- gone. I'm sure you'll be back in "game shape" in no time.

Great goal to have, and good luck in reaching your goal. Start slow and build up to whatever you feel comfortable with.

It's funny how they eat their Wheaties while your gone isn't it? Good luck, and I hope your foot does swell! (excuse my lousy attempt at punny humor )

Thanks. I did about 1500 last year between early April and the end of July, so 2008 should be reasonable (if I stay healthy).

2008 in 2008, is my goal as well. I hope we both make it. I know what you mean about coming back after a layoff. The weather was really bad here for about 5 weeks and I wasn't able to ride. I could believe how much harder everything was. The good news, it comes back quickly if you can ride a few days in a row.

Good luck.

I'm also in for 2008 miles in 2008, I'm tracking my progress using www.mycyclinglog.com. They have a feature that allows you to add goals and it shows you your progress against the goal.
2008 miles in a year is 5.55 miles a day and by now you should have done 82.3 miles. So far I'm 27 miles behind schedule.

They also allow you to create groups, so I've created a group for 2008 in 2008, feel free to join by following this link: https://www.mycyclinglog.com/?g=229&p=2oo8

Good luck to you both,
Steve

Yep, I contributed towards that last year, and I'll do it again this year
