From my church to a Christian retreat in the Pocono mountains. There's nearly five thousand feet of climbing, and Bikely is probably underestimating as usual.
At least five members of my church have ridden this climb-fest. One of them is a woman who borrowed a men's 12 speed for the occasion. One day I'll be able to do this ride. God willing, of course.

Good luck with that Neil. I'm trying to get a group together at my church to ride on Sunday afternoon's but as of yet no takers.

I think I'd have to shy away from doing that ride as part of a church retreat. Something about taking the lords name in vain multiple times as I cursed my way up the hills would be counter to what the ride is supposed to be about.

There ain't much climbing there Neil. You got one 300 footer at about mile 63...then a long gradual 1000 footer over the last 20 miles or so. Perfectly doable for you...you can always take some breaks during that last long slog.

Consider it meditative. Make sure you have gearing that is low enough. As you pedal and are winded, watch your thoughts, and let each one drift away to contemplate the sorts of trials faced by the disciples over their time of study. I find that much of my best thought can happen on a bike, focused by the activity.
