    Just when I thought...

...it was over, I could see pavement again without ice covering it, I was actually shoveling the snow on to the driveway to melt. Now I get this:

I started going out about a week ago once the ice melted enough on the roads that I wasn't a disaster waiting to happen on a bike, and now this. At least I got out a week, dropped 8 lbs this week.

My clubs first ride of the year is tomorrow at 10am. We've had 40 and 50 degree days almost daily for the least week. Now tomorrow we're looking at this!

..WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY
    EVENING
    FRIDAY
    BLUSTERY
    COLDER
    SNOW
    RAIN AND ISOLATED
    THUNDERSTORMS IN THE MORNING
THEN SNOW AND RAIN IN THE
AFTERNOON. SNOW ACCUMULATION UP TO 4 INCHES. HIGH IN THE UPPER
30S. EAST WIND 15 TO 25 MPH. CHANCE OF PRECIPITATION 90 PERCENT.

all I can say is GRRRRRR!!

No Snow, but 50+ MPH wind gusts in the forecast for tomorrow for us. I was hoping this would be the first week that I would have commuted by bike Mon - Friday for this year . I hate wind almost as much as ice!

I am a fair weather rider, and I can't believe this winter... I am actually seriously considering going for a ride Sunday when the high is predicted to be 43... I am so tired of waiting for Spring... the real spring, with warm weather and flowers, not this calendar thing.

The only days so far this year above 50 have either been rainy or on a day I couldn't get out of work before dark.

Western NY does have two advantages over the Soutern part of the USA.
    1. You can shovel snow, and generally it doesn't cause much damage (except for the roads), but I'll take that instead of the risk of huricanes or tornados. By the time any huricane makes it up the country all we get is a little wind and a possibly lot of rain. My in-laws have had multiple huricanes pass over their houses in the last decade in Florida. I also remember living in Tulsa OK when I was younger for a year. Tornado warnings are SCARRY. I've never been scarred by a snow storm... Both huricanes and tornados are things I am perfectly willing to trade for 100+ inches of snow, and occasionally some single digit (F) riding temperaturs. I have been able to get through most of the winter without a car. I've only had to take the car about a dozen times due to the weather this winter.

    2. You Spring and Fall may be "perfect," but our Summers tend to be milder with temps maxing out right around 92F. I've been to TX and FL in the Summer. Those areas get to be super hot and depending on how close you are to the water, super humid as well.

We had snow last night, but it only dropped an inch or so. The roads were perfectly clear for riding by the morning commute. I would not complain if the temps managed to get out of the 30's for a while. Winter is getting a bit long in the tooth.

    Happy riding,
    André

UPDATE: Up to potentially 10" of snow now. I'm tired of roof raking, snowblowing, chipping ice, etc. if it weren't for the kiddies and my want to keep them in school here I'd head south in a minute.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN MILWAUKEE/SULLIVAN HAS ISSUED A
WINTER STORM WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 10 PM CDT
FRIDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

A WINTER STORM SYSTEM IS EXPECTED TO PRODUCE FROM 6 TO 9 INCHES OF
SNOW ACCUMULATION...WITH ISOLATED 10 INCH AMOUNTS POSSIBLE. THE
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL BEGIN WELL AFTER MIDNIGHT TONIGHT...AND
CONTINUE THROUGH THE EVENING HOURS FRIDAY.

A WINTER STORM WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN HEAVY SNOW...AND/OR
SLEET...AND/OR FREEZING RAIN IS EXPECTED TO COMBINE WITH STRONG
WINDS OF 25 MPH OR MORE TO CAUSE MAJOR IMPACTS TO SOCIETY. TRAVEL
WILL BE DANGEROUS AND IS STRONGLY DISCOURAGED. IF YOU MUST
TRAVEL...KEEP A WINTER WEATHER SUPPLY KIT IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE
    OF AN EMERGENCY.

If it makes anyone feel better, I finally got out for a decent length ride today (about 25 miles) and encountered hail. I'm actually going to have a nice little fire later on today, as it's still a bit chilly.

Would that mean freezing rain becomes frain????

Normally around here, the real winter weather runs from mid January until the end of February, when the day time high temperatures are consistently below freezing, and snow that falls stays on the ground. Usually before that you will get days when the temps are above freezing, and the snow that is on the ground melts, we get a green Christmas 2 out of 3 years, and probably two thirds of the time that Christmas is white, it barely qualifies.

There are colder days, but generally there is no real snow accumulation until mid January. Soon after the first of March we are already getting days above freezing, by this time you get more days above freezing then below, and other then the snow banks, the ground is mostly clear. This year we got the first real dumping in November, and we still have more covered ground then clear, and are expecting a wind chill factor this weekend of -18C/0F that is almost unheard of for late March......

You know normally, I kind of laugh at the snow stuff cause, well, you know you live in the snow area, but this year......just damn. Enough already. Hopefully everyone will remain safe from the floods, snow, ice, what ever else is going on up there. Remember, property and belongings can be replaced, you life is short in the big scheme of things.
