Who has their RAGBRAI Registration in?

I did my daughter' and mine a few weeks ago and that is all I can think about!

So, Roll call: Where are you coming in from? (Ames for us)

What days are you doing it? (I'm going all week. Daughter is 1-2 days.

Do you have a team? Which one? We have signed up with one, but its small so I don't know the name yet.

Should we put together a Clyde roundup at one of the overnight towns? (Ames is an overnight and my home. It might be a good place to get together if enough of us are riding.)

It will depend upon job and everything, so I can't register. I have a friend that wants me to go, but there are just too many things on my schedule.

I'm signed up. I'm coming from Southeast Minn. This is my first Ragbrai. Since I don't know anybody else doing it I signed up with a charter service. I'm hoping to meet other people and possibly get with team for 2009 and beyond. Oh and I'm doing the whole week.

Like the OP stated, I can't stop thinking about it.

I'm in! I road my first RAGBRAI last year with minimal training. This year I have a road bike instead of a hybrid and I am itching to ride!! I had a great time last year and can't wait for this July. I am riding the whole week again and plan to enjoy! Do you have any yard space in Ames? I need a spot for my small team. : )

I have lot's of space (3 acres) 1 mile out of town. Not that convenient for getting to the central camping/party area (probably 5 miles by bike)

The full route is out now!! https://data.desmoinesregister.com/ra...rai08route.php Looks like it's taking US HWY 30 a good deal of the way.

I've decided to go self contained this year and am going to ride to the start with a couple buddies from other teams here in CR. So I'm looking at an extra 3-4 days added to RAGBRAI WOOOT!

Tomdaniels: Do you have a team camping at your property? and which direction from Ames is it?

Bizurke,

I have offered to my place to my team, but haven't heard back yet. My place is 1 mile west of the Ames city limits, just North of 30 by 1/4 mile and there is plenty of room for several teams.
We are 1.2 mile off of the route.

I am a bit leary of inviting a few bike teams (that I don't know) to my place. Mainly, I'm worried about the mess and the fact that any issues will be "my fault" in the eyes of the wife.

So a few questions: Do teams leave a mess as a rule? Do they ever pay for camping space? I don't want to make a mint here, I just want something to help justify cleanup, etc.

In my experience teams generally pick up after them selves, there are exceptions to this obviously but if a owner asks them to leave it how they found it they will generally make sure not to leave any sign they were there. With my team I know we have all given a farmer $5 each to stay at his place and use his real life inside toilet (yay no KYBO!) and with a team my size $5/each is a good sum.

I just asked because it's a shame to have that much area and not have it be used.

Your place sounds good to me for having a meet up, I'll probably ride in to Ames first and check it out and then head back out to your place.

So that's 2 people for tomdaniels place, anyone else want to chime in!?

Bizurke,

If that's the common attitude, I would love to have folks out. We have a downstairs shower/bathroom with a walkout basement. It would work great.

I'm going to tentatively say that we will do this at this point.

I know my group will have a place set up to stay in Ames, but I wouldn't mind stopping out to
say hi

Edit: Just an observation, but they bumped up the climbing elevation quite a bit this year.

There's just no way I can commit. We're house shopping/buying so I have to pretty much keep my summer up in the air at this point.

My 11 year-old son and I have our registrations in. I have ridden about 10 complete RAGBRAIs and parts of about 10 others starting with RAGBRAI IV when I was a high school freshman.

We rode one day last year.

I rode for the first time last year and am really looking forward to this year! Ragbrai was my re-entry into biking. After battling a serious knee injury and cancer the past few years it was great to complete last years ride.

I used a hybrid last year with very little training. This year I have a new road bike and hope to have many miles under my belt before the festivities begin!
