How did your March go?

I'm a little slow with my update since March wasn't as good as Jan and February. My monthly goals were 100 miles of riding and 5 pounds lost. I didn't hit either. I did however get more days on the road (4) than in February (1). I had to cancel my gym membership due to cost of living increases so after the second week of the month the only way I get miles is actually on the road. So for the month of march I had 81.37 miles and a total of 450.89 for the year.

Also, I think my end of month February weight total was artificially low due to time of day and dehydration so I wasn't really at 217 at the end of the month last month but more likely 219ish. March was tough on the food and couch potato side. I wasn't able to maintain the self-control on the food-hand-mouth connection and as a result I ended the month at 219.

So after 3 years here were I stand for my goals:

1) 2000 miles for the year - 450.89 down and 1549.89 to go
2) Loose 40 pounds - I'm down 8 pounds for the year so 32 to go
3) Ride 3 centuries - still need to up miles ange actually register for them (next step)

So how are you doing?

I finished up March with 820.4 miles for the year... 179.6 shy of the 1000 I was aiming for, but I spent two weeks off my bike in March. I was aiming for a 500 mile month, but my fiancee's knee surgery ended up being more extensive than initially planned. Her recovery just to get back to where she can walk to her car and go to work took almost 2 weeks, so up to this week I've been helping her in the morning (which meant no bike commute for me.)
Now she's back up and walking again, so I'm back to riding again. I'm shooting for a 500 mile April, and off to a good start considering we've had a chilly first couple of days. I put in 24.35 miles yesterday, including the most insane grocery run yet... Nevermind my previous feats of 35 pound sacks of dogfood and 24 packs of soda. This was just one bag of groceries; it weighed about 15-17 pounds. I picked up groceries at the co-op at the bottom of Novelty Hill, and then rode up the 650' high, 2.25 mile long climb to my apartment. Holy cow, what a workout that was.
Aside from not riding for two weeks, March was alright. I changed the gearing on my commuter and put a 34t ring and an 11-32 cassette on there so hills aren't a problem any more. I also converted my old PDG Series-5 to a fixed gear; so I learned how to build a wheel, and that went well. Plus, I think I've finalized my ride calendar for 2008, and next payday I'm signing up for all my events.

Not so hot. Most of the riding I wanted to do didn't come about. I broke a spoke one week, and I was off the bike for a few days. I tripped on something in someone's apartment and thought I had a broken toe, so my riding was cut out for a few days. The weather refused to cooperate. I won't commute to work if there's going to be ice on the roads, since I ride home at night, so I couldn't commute. The one day the weather was good enough to ride to church, I had to transport beverages for 25 people, so I drove.

I'm 'maintaining' at 270 ish, about 25 pounds more than my summer weight. Yes, I've slipped up badly, and repeatedly. As I ride more frequently I will become more focused and disciplined, and my weight will come down.

Still, there are plusses. I have a 36 spoke rear wheel that seems to be holding up. My toe wasn't broken, and after a few days it healed. The episodes of lightheadedness I had seem to have disappeared. I climbed the hill on Lucas Road twice more, meaning I HAVE beaten it. I have a bike trailer and camping gear, and my first camping trip is the end of the month. The weather looks good enough to commute tomorrow, and my first metric century is this Saturday.

Goals for the year:

Lose enough weight to be 200-220.
Ride enough miles to be able to complete 175 miles over two days in September, and 350 miles in a week this June.
And be a cyclist people will respect - starting with me.

March sucked... too cold outside. Nothing but indoor roller miles.
One or two days outside during some nice 45-50 degree weather. Maybe 70-80 miles outside in March, probably 15 hours on the rollers inside. I mean, they were hard roller hours, as my HR was always above 160-170, sweat dripping like crazy, good for strength training, not good for weight loss.

I had a rather decent March. Here's my year so far:

January: 15.88
February: 276.57
March:536.14

I'm diggin' that upward trend in the monthly totals, but I know the curve will soon flatten out considerably...

March was crap for me. Lots of mystery flats until I changed tires and rim tape about a week ago. On the other hand, I got a lot of running in.

I ended March with a hair under 400 miles for the year. Not bad, not great, I"m just glad I'm back into my "daily habit" of workouts!

Weight wise and diet wise I'm doing awesome. Caloric intake is perfect and weight is shedding at the rate I predicted/wanted. Given this, in 12-14 more weeks I could actually be below the "300 pounds lost" magical mark.

Don't worry, if I hit that goal, there's no way anyone will miss it.

404 miles in March. 941 miles from 1/1-3/31. Note - I count my trainer miles...oh wait, that's a different thread .

Lost 3 pounds in March. Official weight is 186 as of 3/31.

All in all a good month. Looking forward to getting outside more.

The wife (Gina): Not bad for a grandma of 6 with one kidney! 287 miles in March/ 606 ytd. Thank goodness this is Cali. Nice weather for the most part. She almost doubled her Jan and Feb miles. But that was holidays, weather and stuff holding her back in the first two months. Hoping to pick it up now with better weather.

Me: Much better than I thought, 410 miles for March nearly doubling Jan and Feb miles. 842 YTD First 2 months slow with some rain.

The woman I'm dating bought me a speedometer and in a week I've ridden just over 130 miles with really no big ride days.

In April, I'm shooting for at least 500 miles with several 80+ mile days.

Got back into riding after a 30 year hiatus on Feb 8th. First day riding: 3.9 miles, that was a workout.

Feb total 147 miles. March total 277 miles. Last week 151 miles.

Need to pick up my pace (speed) and improve a lot on hills.

I did okay. I got close to 200 miles in, and the big thing is since the second week of Feb. I have lost 22lbs so I feel real good about that. I have my first charity ride this Saturday. I elected to do the 33 so I hope things go well.

It sucked, although I must say it was better than Jan or Feb combined, which is not saying much. We are down 2 people at work and I am getting slammed and have some family issues I have been dealing with, so much, much less riding. I am down 400 miles off last years pace. I am going to have to pull 440 miles each month for the rest of the year to reach my goal of 4000 miles and I still have not had a ride since 3/29. I'm sitting here running some test code and while it's running, I'm reading some post. I will be going out tonight though.

Rode a little more in Mar., than Feb., but it was mostly commuting. Ran on the treadmill more and started running outside at the end of the month. Weight's probably the same (scale's broke). I should probably get actual running shoes.

Well, I beat March 2007 by 1km, 27 versus 26 last year, not much, but when you consider we got almost 200cm of snow this year (almost half of that between Feb 14th and March 15th), funny thing is, a week ago, I couldn't see out my front window from the snow banks, and now it's almost gone, except for a little here and there, and some parking lot mountains....

Overall a decent start to the year. I have a 2008 mileage goal of 2500 and I want to get under 300 pounds and stay there. Finally I want to do a metric century in 2008.

No real progress on the weight loss front. I am still around 335. I really need to start focusing on food intake.

The mileage front is going much better. I have exceeded my goals each month so far this year and I had my best ever mileage day yesterday @ 36.53. I think a half century or a metric is possible by the end of June.

Jan Goal 50.00
Jan Miles 131.44

Feb Goal 50.00
Feb Miles 72.00

Mar Goal 150.00
Mar Miles 249.02

YTD Goal 250.00
YTD Miles 452.46

If I can keep up the riding pace, I hope the weight will start to come off.

So far the riding gods have been good to me. I ended March with 950 miles and 28,335' of climbing. I did 2 metric centuries, 1 century and 1 double century. For the year I'm at 2,174 miles and 65,064' of climbing.
