New bottom bracket

Evidently, after about 1000 miles I had ground the insides of my bottom bracket into shrapnel. Took it to my LBS and they replaced it and tuned it up They only charged me for the part so I made sure and left a tip for my wrench. Anybody else run into this problem? The replacement has a lifetime guarantee so hopefully I won't have to worry about it.

I fried my bottom bracket, but they replaced the frame and internals for me to the next step up frame.

Mine was making a knocking noise (on the drive side espscially) as I would pedal. Took it in and all they had to do is tighten it up good. I was thinking about upgrading the BB but decided to save the money to go toward a new bike and just keep this one running as cheaply as possible.

Do you ride through water regularly? That seems rather fast for a BB that isn't seeing real abuse.

Also, what BB did you have put in? I'm not sure I've every heard of one with a lifetime guarantee...

Considering that they call it a Fuji brand BB it's probably a pretty inexpensive part, and if you're a bigger guy it wouldn't be surprising if you destroyed it. Chances are if the one they gave you is a good sealed BB you should be fine for quite some time. If it cost you around $40 you should be OK.

I ground mine in shrapnel last spring on my hybrid. It was about 16 years old but not a lot of miles. I had the LBS replace it with a sealed BB. I thinkl it cost me about $30.00 to have ti replaced. I only use the hybrid on rail trails or when riding with the kids now a days.

They only charged me $29.00 and said if the new one fails they will replace it for free. It is also a sealed model. I've got a good LBS with good people working there.
I don't hardly ever ride through water. I imagine since it's a cheap entry-level bike the original part was cheap and subject to wear. Oh well, I'm back on the road again and the weekend here in Tulsa looks good.
Thanks

Mine was making a funny noise, the LBS said it needed to be replaced, I couldn't afford it at the time, they said, just ride it until it destroys itself, and then bring it in, that was 1500 miles ago, it's still going, I dribble in a little chain lube to shut it up occasionally......

I got about 7,500 on my Trek, but I think it's shot.

You should be able to get more than 1,000 out of it.
