Fat Cyclist Blog: Terrible news

If you are like me and follow Elden over at his blog, he and his wife just had some terrible news. I really hate to see it.

yeah, I left a little note of encouragement.

Not sure I would handle a similar situation with the aplomb they are both showing...

I have never been to fatcyclist until now, never read any blogs, never saw their pictures. Hard to describe how I have been affected by this. My prayers are with them, only God knows the words I am searching for.. I'll leave it to Him.

Read yesterday's post there, had a hard time going back and reading today's. Every time I get feeling bad about my position something comes along and reminds me that I'm not as bad off as I think.

My prayers go out to Elden and Susan and family.

It feels so lame to say "I'm thinking positively for you", but I'm afraid that's all we can do at this point. So sad.

I kind of understand where he's at. My wife had a brain tumor removed several years ago. Thus far, she's beat the odds though with reduced growth rate on the residual tumor. After the radiation and chemo, they were able to arrest the growth on the remaining tumor they couldn't remove, and we treat each day as a treat that was unexpected.

Positive thoughts can help, though and that's all we really have to offer.

I found his blog only about two months ago, and spent time reading a good part of it. Now I read that post and feel like *I* was hit in the stomach. Man, I feel for them. I can't imagine.

I wish I was good at writing kind things so I could comment over there, but I never get it out well.

That really sucks, cancer sucks!!! I lost my mom less than a month ago to Luekemia, she was only 60. The Luekemia was discovered Jan. 16th 2008 and she passed April 7th 2008.

I used to think I had things in life I just did not like, even go so far as to say things I hated. Now, not so much, now my one true hatred is cancer.

This forum intro'd me to his blog. Having lost my grandmother to cancer and my mother being a breast cancer survivor, I just feel sick for them. Very nice of Lance to send that picture.

This makes me cry.

When I read the part about the 6 year old twins it brought back streams of memory from my bro-in-law who left a 3,8 and a 12 year old behind after colon cancer got the best of him. By god he wanted to live so badly.

I just hope a miracle happens for her.

I know it's strange to quote myself, but immediately after posting, I emailed TwinSix about ordering the now unavailable pink Fatcyclist Jersey to show my support for Susan, and got a reply already. The following is from Ryan at Twin Six:

The new orange men’s should be up on the site in the next week or so. New women’s pinks sometime in the next three weeks. And a very very limited edition version of the men’s jersey in pink should be here before June. Elden will be mentioning the jersey availability as well. This is all an order we placed back in January – so that gives you some idea of the time it takes to have stuff made. Wish we could turn out stuff faster.

We’ll get everything up on the site as soon as possible.

Ryan
TWIN SIX

Thanks for the quick reply Ryan.

That is deeply sad news. I was working at an other company a little over a year ago when one of the employees there was dealing with a similar battle with cancer. I had gotten to know this person a few years earlier when he had sold me some tech services. During the 6 months In worked there it was a mix of ups and downs. This gentleman also had a three young kids. It breaks your hart, but sadly life can be harsh. I found out after the fact that he had passed away about 4 months after I left. Danny was a super nice guy and certainly did not deserve to die so young, but that is what happend. I feel for the family. Life will never be the same. Hopefully the kids will be able to enjoy the qaulity time they have with their mom and hold on to those for the remainder of their life. I wish them all the strength in the world, because they are going to need it.

I did a 40 mile ride yesterday and honestly don't remember most of it. All I could think about is how I would handle the same situation (not anywhere near as well as Fatty, I'm afraid). Take a look at today's Fatty post; brief but cool.

Man this sucks, I have never been to the blog (school censors don't allow it for whatever reason), but I lost my grandmother to cancer in 2001, I have never been as sad as that in my life. It almost brings me to tears every time I think about it.
