Calling all clydesdale Lemond owners...
I have a shot at picking up a lightly used Lemond Versailles from 2005. It is the carbon/steel bike and comes with 105 9 speed, ultegra rear derailleur etc. Most impressive to me are the custom wheels- 36 spoke DA hubs with velocity deep V rims. Considering I was going to build some velocity deep v's with 105 hubs, seems pretty crazy. It seems to be to be a great price ($925) considering the wheels and the rest of the group set.
My question is this- Whats with the frame? Part of it is carbon and part of it is steel... I understand that. Is it durable? Will it last? Right now I weigh 320 and dropping... and I could always buy it and let it sit idle (uh huh... like thats gonna happen) until i'm down to 275 or so. Thanks for your help fellow clydes. |
Bikes are a nice ride. Mine is aluminum with carbon. It's called the 'spine' design. Bottom tubes are steel, top 3 are carbon. Seat stays, seat tube and top tube sort of form a spine figure. I like the ride, yours should be a bit smoother your steel over my aluminum.
Nice ride but IMO, a bit flexy under a powerful rider. When I stand, I can hear the chainline moving side to side (sound coming form the front derailleur cage). I try not to stand and crank. Tubes are much bigger on my Cannondale, so this doesn't happpen. Super stiff but a Lemond is much nicer ride. Maybe yours would be a bit stiffer and more durable as it's steel rather than flimsy aluminum. I'm 245'ish. I had 13,000 on the original frame before it snapped. Mine was originallly all aluminum (Tourmalet), but I snapped it at the bottom bracket. The current frame feels stiffer but still not as stiff as the Canni.:D |
I have that same frame and it's stood up to a ton of abuse. It's a nice smooth ride and it should treat you well.
$925 seems awfully high when you could pick up the 2006 for $1000 even. |
