2nd Ride Report - I'm a biker!

OK so bought the bike Saturday - with the help of you! - and went for my first ride Sunday - 22 miles on a flat bike trail - Silver Comet in about 1.5 hours. Had a blast and only fell once at the beginning - learning to use the shoes and clip in and out... but it was really a great ride and a great day.

So today was ride 2. I joined a group ride and set out to meet the gang at a Mall. Well I only met one person, but he happens to have led many rides for the Southern Bike league so he knows a ton about biking. So we rode on bike paths and busy streets (At some points) and headed out for about 10 miles and back. The turning point was at Stone Mountain. It was quite an experience to actually ride to the mountain that I have previously driven to and walked up. I felt so accomplished and powerful. Like yes - I CAN do this, I will lose the weight - and meet a ton of people with my newfound hobby.

He was a fabulous leader and we had a great time. He said he was really impressed in how well I did~! (I think I am able to keep up since I have been exercising on the elliptical for the past 6 weeks for 40 minutes a shot).

1:48:37 seconds..19.6 miles with about a 10 minute stop.... and a few hills.

I am loving this biking thing!

Sounds like a great ride, not bad time either! You sound like you are a genuine CYCLIST!

FYI, not me but many cyclists will argue about the 'biker' thing. They say 'bikers' are the leather chap wearing harley people. I got tired of hearing it so I use 'cyclist' now. Just a warning if you visit the road forum. Believe it or not, there have been several threads on the topic!

Smell you Nancy Drew! Seriously, great stuff! You're right about the elliptical helping you out, my experience was similar. I got my cardio up before I started riding so 10-15 and 20 mile rides weren't too outrageous.

I'm not sure the ones on the back are actually bikers. I think they are classified as "Klingons".

I'm so very, very sorry....

Yeah...I'm one of those snobs... sorry. At the risk of offending every demographic known to man, I do prefer "cyclist". A "biker" rides a motorcycle. And although more acceptable to me than "biker", a "bicyclist" uses a bike as transportation only (although they'd prefer a car but perhaps can't afford it, as opposed to someone choosing to bike-only transportation), and doesn't have a helmet, shorts, or jersey.

A peron more concerned with function than style....

"Fred" is a compliment, unless you're an unobtanium riding OCP (A Road Forum term for Obsessive Compulsive Poseur ).

Now to explain OCP: Thats a rider that rides down to Starbucks and poses outside with their $15000.00 Exotic Alloy or Carbon Fiber bike in full team kit.

Well I'm about to make it much worse, the passenger seat on a Harley is fondly referred to as the ***** seat. Or at least it was up until a few years ago when they decided to call it a jump seat. Oh and they don't call em sissy bars anymore either. The PC movement caught up to the biking industry haha.

Not saying I agree with it, please don't banniate me

Anyways, excellent work on the rides, two trips out and your already in the twenty plus range! You'll be chasing down your first century in no time. Any ride pics?
