Tour de Cure, The Official Clyde Report.

To start things off, Tour de Cure was a phenomenal success this year. We inaugurated the 100 mile ride on the track, for one thing. 10wheels very nearly made the Century in under the cutoff time, with 94 miles and change. Good job, Fred. scummer did the whole ball of wax, as well, with just over 100 miles. Also a great job. p1jrevely made 84 miles, his longest ride ever. trekden made 67, as did Beverly.

We were short a few riders, drew missed his flight, solveg got sick, and costs killed a couple others from coming in from out of state. We raised as a team $3935.00, and I did $1100.00 of that myself.

I have a short teaser video here, and if anyone knows a free server where I can upload a 34 minute video, I'll be glad to put up the whole thing.

Great job Tom, I'm glad to hear the event was a success. Congratulations on the fundraising. I'm not familiar with car racing but I'm assuming the turns are banked? If so, how was that to ride on? I'm not sure if I would like ride that long on a track. On one hand, no cars to worry about and I'm assuming you can take a rest stop whenever you want. On the other hand, I like a change in scenery once in a while.

The turns had a slight banking to it. Maybe 15 degrees or so, it was not very noticeable. The track itself was smooth as butter and having no cars to dodge it was an amazing place for a great training ride.
Yes, the scenery got old after a couple of laps, but the pacelining on such a smooth surface was well worth it. It made for a very, very fast century ride. I clocked 19.8mph avg over the 100 miles I rode.

Great work. It would be cool to ride there someday. Do they do events at other race tracks?

Great Job guys!!! I just got a letter today and the Reston TdC had 1000 riders and raised over $400K. So how was it riding in a circle all day? I think it would be cool to ride on a racetrack, but I think I'd get bored with it.

It was actually a lot harder than you might think......

There is no tree shade, and the sun becomes like a hamer the the track, the anvil......

There was a nasty headwind on the backstretch as well, that really slowed me down. I actually only made 41.2 miles before the shoulder blew up on me, though.

I honestly have to say, in 27 laps I wasn't bored at all out there. Plenty of other riders to talk to at all times for one thing. The volunteers working the pit stops, and all around were plenty friendly as well. The other side of this is it's still cycling, and with that comes drive. The drive to go as far as you can, the drive to hang on to a paceline as long as you can, the drive that makes time go by, and leaves you wanting more, the drive that makes you stand on your pedals for two laps when your saddle feels a little more personal than it should !!

I believe all of us in the group said we'd like to come back next year. I believe that all of us will, as long as we are able. This year the track beat me, next year, June 13th I plan to beat it.

I'll be posting a thread in Clyde's as well as the Charity events forum to get recruitment for Team Stormcrowe going as soon as the servers are set up for next years event. Keep your eyes open.

I'll also have arrangements set up for the Brickyard Crossing Hotel, right next door to the Speedway again, just for the sheer convenience of it.

Sounds like a great time all around, although I'm sorry to hear the recent injury postponed your achievement of your Speedway Century goal until next year. Next year, though, I'm looking forward to reading the good news!
