I am looking for a riding partner.
I live in Shelby Township, and back up to the Macomb Orchard Trail.

Have you checked on the MMBA board yet?
https://www.mmba.org/
I was in contact with someone on there just a few days ago who was a fellow clyde and interested in riding Stony with me, he also lives in Shelby Twp. (was it you?)
Anyhow, he might be interested.
Personally I like riding alone while on the pavement but perfer to have a partner when riding trails.

No wasn't me.
I just moved to 25 & Shelby, I have been riding for about 6 weeks now.
I just purchased a new MTB, and am getting board with the paved trails
I have been doing all road riding, because I do not know anybody out here, and do not want to crash in the woods by myself.

I've become familiar with Stony Creek lately, it has a little bit for everyone. Check my week-old-thread in here about "passing out" there. hehe
I'd ride with you out there but there is one caveat, I'm car free and live in Clinton Township, so making it to Stony is a daunting task for me as I'd either have to catch a ride with someone or take my wifes truck which is sometimes a problem due to my very strange work schedule.
I don't know how well you ride, but there is a section of singletrack at Stony called "The Pines" which is just plain awesome in my opinion. It's a nice winding singletrack with a little of everything (logs, roots, sand, bridges, rock garden, etc) and anything that you don't feel comfortable with has a ride-around section it seems. My first few times through there I would pass up the rock garden but now I love plowing thru it.
I've been trying to find a ride out there on early Tuesday afternoon, if I manage to get one I'll send you a message... assuming of course you have the time.
I'll send you a PM here in just a minute with some info on the other clyde from the MMBA site who is interested in a ride partner. But hopefully we can work something out when both of us are off work (assuming you work, I have no idea how old you are) and maybe we can hook up for an introductory ride at Stony.

There probably are some areas around here though, I just don't know of them since road riding is not in my interests (I get plenty of road riding in on my 25 mile commute every day).
sorry to not be of much help.

I just wanted to say hello to other Michiganders, I'm over in SW, Coloma and if I was in the SE I'd like to join you. I'm ready to start looking for other people to ride with.

Ann Arbor has a very successful touring club. Stay tuned to multi day rides. Michigan has several interesting organized multiple day rides. Like to join you sometime.

I live on the north side of Stoney Creek and have lived here for many a year...
What do you want to know? I've been all over - Orchard Trail out to Armada, Clinton River Trail to West Bloomfield, Paint Creek to Lake Orion, Polly Ann almost to I-69, Stoney Creek dirt - everywhere...
The dirt trails at Stoney are ok. I ride more road than dirt. I'll take my XC bike out once a week but I'm riding road about 3 times a week. There is a group ride that goes to Stoney on Wednesday nights from Stoney Creek High School. I went once with them last year but they kicked my butt.
If you want someone to go out with to show you around, let me know, I'll pass on my knowledge, but I'm not an expert. I'll ride the Pines all day at Stoney, but I don't like the Roller Coaster.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

Here's the top of an 800 footer I climbed with a 65 pound trailer full of gear
Here's a view of Marquette from about 18 miles out from a hilltop:
and a topographic map, excuse the poor resolution:
as well as a view of the great camping!

The kids and I ride the Metro parks all the time. At 8, 10 and 49 years the pace is leasurly and the distances moderate but we're working on increasing both. Round trip thru Oakwoods, Willow, Lower huron and back is 30 miles of paved trails. One of these days.

I'm with you on the pines. That is some of the best singletrack I have ridden on. Not saying it's *the* best, but it is just my type of singletrack.
Every once in a while I'll head out there and just do the pines 4 or 5 times then run the doubletrack for a while.
Maybe we can hook up for a "pines" run some day...
