small accomplishment/i'm getting better

I have been riding a route for the past month that was mostly flat with very few smal hills. I always wanted to go the route that most of the serious cyclist go around here but there is this very big hill (to me) that has owned me mentally so I never went that way. Today I decided to change that and went up that hill and to my surprise I never had to get off my bike and push it which I thought I would. I could not have done this a month ago. I can tell that I am getting stronger and better on the bike.:) I know this may sound small to some but it made my day.:D

Bravo!!! Those hills can be tough...but the down part! that's the fun! Wheee....

Not small at all -- I had a similar experience two weeks ago, when I pedaled smoothly up a long hill I had always struggled up in the past. These are important benchmarks of our progress.

Trick that always worked for me is just do it a t a comfortable pace. Even if it meant crwling or falling behind the others. SO WHAT! Sooner or later it gets easier. Sometimes I do the dreaded hill when I know I'm having a bad day just to prove that I can. If I can do it on a bad day, I can do it on a good day!:D

You've already won the war!:thumb:

Congratulations!!!

The wife and I just did a local charity ride on Saturday that was described as "flat". Well, it did have a few hills. Mostly rollers. (I know, I know... compared to some mountain states we ain't got nuthin approaching a "hill"!)

Anyway, the biggest of the hills took its toll on the wife. She made it about 2/3s up and had to dismount and do the Walk-'O-Shame. As luck would have it, the top of that hill is where the event photographer was set up to take everyone's picture as we struggled by. So, he got a nice shot of her pushing her bike up the hill.

I kept going while I had some momentum and waited for her on the downslope. All of a sudden here she came like a pink blur yelling at me to get a move on. She was at the back of a pack of riders and I didn't see her until it was too late. She blew by, I climb back aboard and the chase was on! She's purty quick going downhill!

Anyway, good for you on the besting of the monster hill. Now it's on to the next one! That's the great thing about accomplishments and progress, it seems like we aren't getting anywhere until we look back and see how far we've come. I'm sure that this time next year she will blow over it without even thinking about it! I'm sure that you will look at this hill and remember how bad it used to seem as you fly over it without a second thought.

I didn't know the answer to that either. Got to use the urban dictionary (www.urbandictionary.com): pwnd = "An internet chat language variety/version of the word "owned", used in the sence of beating/defeating/outclassing someone".

""You Got Pwnd is a nerdy way of telling someone that they have been owned""

I guess you now qualify as a "serious cyclist", don't you? Congratulations on getting over that hill, both physical and mental.
