Road bike tires?

Just wanted to know your opinion on tires. Im a 300# 6'1" clyde that just got a road bike for commuting. I plan on running the largest tire I can get to fit. But just wanted to know what everybody is using to commute on. I can get just about every make or model from my lbs so I have too many choices for me to pick from. Thanks for the help.

I have the best experience with the Continental Gatorskins (28mm - pretty flat-resistant, very durable and smooth rolling)
Specialized Armadillos are pretty much flat-proof but you need to put in considerable extra-effort to get these things rolling.

what kind of bike? True road? probably max size will be a 28, CX and touring will give you some more room for something in the 32 size.

I have Specialized Nimbus Armadillos on my MTB and I think they are quite bullet proof. I bought them for commuting but use them for all my riding. You can get them for 26 or 700.

Airborne Thunderbolt. True road bike. My father-inlaw works for Huffy. This was the last of the Airbournes they had that came from Airborne NOT from huffy.

I run 23's and weight about 235. I have tried different tires but really can't tell much difference, so I will buy more Nashbar cheapies when they go on sale again.

Soon: 700x25c Continental Ultra Race Wire

Now: "stock" 700x25c Kenda K-152

700x28 Continental Sport Contacts - they seem to be holding my (now 365 lbs) weight just fine.

How are the Soma's wearing for you Tom and would you purchase them again? How easy or difficult to mount on the Deep V's

+1 to the Gatorskins, also 28mm. Tough stuff.

A bugger to mount, but they wear like iron. They get great lateral traction as well adn are pretty quick!

They are primarily used by the SS/FG crowd and Messengers because they have an extra 5mm thickness of contact surface. From what I've seen thus far, I'll eventually just blow out the sidewalls before the tire wears to the cords. Would I buy them again? In a NY Nanosecond!

1000+ on the Gatorskins.

I put Gatorskins (28's) on last year for a tour and haven't taken them off. They are great tires. Very smooth riding and easy to get on or off but so far, I haven't needed to.

The Armadillos are tough in all ways. Just try getting them on or off. :(
