Ride 17 - Sweet GA Country and the Ex

Est 25 miles approx 2 hours 1 minute - Rolling Hills

Ride 17 - I went back to GA farm land Silksheets ride) in Cambellton GAwith a friend of mine Of course we had a blast. The country was gorgeous!

We went to the site of Ride 14 4th of July Ride about 2 hours 1 minute 25 miles on rolling hills. Last time I rode there was for a group where I rode most of the time alone. I t was a tone different riding next to somoene! The route is marked pretty well - so off we went. It was awesome not ot be in traffic!

Now I hope you all don’t think I am crazy but one of the best parts of the ride was being passed by 2 very nice svelte riders (men of course) and we decided to catch up to them. I usually yell something like watch out here we come. Now I know some of you get annoyed when you pass people and they wheel suck. But I usually say look out here I come in a fun way –cause I know they will think me being chubby will never catch them…I think we have fun. Of course we all rode together for a while about to the next hill and then off they went. I think that the bikers I meet are very happy to see us try and catch them and we have fun. At least I hope so.

Anyway – being passed by the riders – was one of the bests part as it forced us to kick it up a notch. I know I felt better on the ride than the 4th. Also - I checked the July 14 post and I shaved about 11 minutes of my time thought I was not really trying to go fast. Just survive the hills. The Georgia Farm lands rock. Next Monday I need to be home form work and I may ride the route again - only do the 50 mile route!
If the Ex sends pictures I will post some... A gorgeous ride.

Sounds like you're having fun, and that is the biggest motivator there is.

Keep it up there, young lady.

Sounds like a blast! Your posts are great - I like how you are always positive about your riding experiences, and I'd imagine you are now hooked. Am I wrong?

Thanks Guys - I am definitely hooked! I Love thre bike, love riding, love the exercise - and how much better I feel - and ofcourse losing weight! I also love all the people I have met and rode with. I usually lose alot of the group of riders, but have managed along the way to meet plenty of new people as well. In 2 weeks I think I will be ridng the Covington Century - probably a 50 mile route or so we shall see!! OK off to go workout in the hotel gym.

Silksheets is a great ride, we did that route on the last Tour de cure and had a blast. My job was letting Emil (Team type one pro rider) draft me for the entire time so he had fresh legs for his race afterwards.

I went up to the Gaps again on Saturday to suffer on the climbs, that is one ride you need to do once you are ready. I'll be at the Covington century drilling it up front as usual so be sure to say "hey". You can't miss me, I'll be the big guy in the apb kit. You will enjoy the century, it's a fast one!

Forgot - Also where are the Gaps that you are riding? ( I even am not sure of the definition, but i think it means you go up and then down hence a gap and refers to mountains as opposed to the rolling hills???)

Thanks Scott - I checked out the NA GA website - and the ride post you had. After reading your post - I thought maybe when I am an expert cycler...for now I am no where near ready to make those turns let alone the uphill! WOW! But on the NA GA website - i saw 2 route maps that look - Easy. So I my have to take a road trip up there and ride! (The ride maps are under area routes and look like beginner rides...)

Thanks for the post!

Nice! I am a rider in Atlanta. I'll be looking for some nice routes outside the city once it cools off some. Is there a map online of this route you took?

Here's what I found when I googled Silk Sheets:

http://http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Silk-Sheets-50-miler

Also the ride starts out behing Charlies store (Gas Station - Charlies on left and church on right)

Follow the markings onthe road. theres a c6s where c will take you the 50 mile route and s the 25 mile route. You head the way the 6 points. It's a great ride.

Directions from Downtown Atlanta: Take I-75/I-85 South to I-85 South. Take Exit #72 - Camp Creek Parkway. Drive 11.8 miles. Turn Left on Fulton Industrial Blvd. There is a QT and McDonald's on your Right. Drive 7.8 miles to the 4-Way stop light. There is a store named Charlie's on the Right.I ususally park acorss the street on a side street from Charlies.
