uber clyde needs advice on bike

Hello all, I've purchased a older Trek 800 sport Mountain Track, all indications are that I purchased the correct size of frame size 16"....but when I ride, I seem to be too close to the handle bar. The LBS told me that the straight handlebar was at it's max level and that I could not lift the it any higher. The bike and saddle are in the neutral position (even level in relation to each other).....is this the proper fit for me feeling so close to the handle bar?

Height and weight? If you've said it before somewhere, I'm sorry, but just can't recall. Inseam would help as well.

OK, honesty time. When I resumed cycling, I was 450 pounds and the bike felt too short in the cockpit because I was just plain so big. This will tend to go away as the belly shrinks......experience here talking.

Do some crunches to help flatten out the belly, and core exercises so you can tighten up your core muscles along with the riding and the progression down in size will go faster.
