Weight loss question

Ok, so I had this thought right before I went to bed.

A couple years back I was rooming with my cousin and He was on this super crazy diet where he weighed his food and stuff. Went to the gym 2-3 hours per day for cardio and ate minimal meals. Well he lost quite a bit of weight and I noticed when we went swimming that he was a couple sizes to small for his skin. Is this normal or should I chalk it up to the large amount of weight he lost in such a short time?

I'm wondering once I shed the 80 or so pounds that I put on in the last 3 years will this happen to me? Or if I take it slow and natural ishould I expect my body to adjust as well.

I cant really teach you on a message board, but it depends really. If you make a RADICAL CHANGE then the answer is yes. For some they have no other choice. I think 80 pounds is not bad, you can certainly do it without the baggy skin. The thing is It takes about 4 months for your skin to accommodate to a smaller shape. the "jump" has to be relative though. for example for me at 6'5" and a small frame it would be about 15 lbs, so every 15 pounds I would have to give my skin 4 months to adapt. So I would try to loose about 1 pound per week.

One more thing is that you cant always be on a state of decomposition and calorie depravation. At some point you have to give your body a chance to adapt to its new basal metabolic rate. The answer is simple zig zag your diet. eat very little 5 days a week. 1 day moderate, and 1 day pig out. then repeat. Also give yourself 3 weeks off every year, were you mostly lounge around. This way you can make about 1 pound per week easy.

although that does not sound like much, what that means is 48lbs per year in two years you can undo what you did in 3 and look better than ever have. Not a bad trade off me thinks.

If you want to learn more you can read this http://drsquat.com/articles/zigzag.html oh and you dont have to work out 2-3 hours a day. 30-45 min 6 times a week, or 1 hours 3 times a week is MORE than enough. The diet will take care of the fat.

although not 80lbs, I did work with my girlfriend and had her loose about 65lbs In a couple of years. It took that long, because it was hard for her to make changes in the beginning (and she was a major flake). Problem with that was she like exercising and now is trying to bodybuild and get "big".

I myself gained 90lbs using those methods (halfassed cause I am a flake too) it took about 7 years.

If you go with your doctors, their diets will work, but usually cause lots of insulin spikes, because of what they recommend, and the persons end up looking very soft. Doctors are trained to work on sick people and not healthy people, and are usually fat themselves.

I think a lot will depend on your body. I have lost 58 lbs since Christmas with just a bit of lose jelly around the middle. It's not 80 lbs but hey wouldn't you rather have a little extra skin than 80 extra lbs?

By the way 1 lb a week is a great weight loss rate.

I respectfully advise caution here. Some people are not able to pig out one day and get back on track so easily the next. Also the eat very little 5 dyas a week may back fire as well. Alot of the "diet" is mental and some times addictive. So eating "very little" 5 days a week - may make you really crave a bunch of food.

My thought is perhpas a moderate plan for the entire time - it does not take much to lose one pound a week especailly for a man- so perhaps jst cutting back will help.

I started working out 2-3 times a week and riding more often in November. My dietary changes basically consisted of cutting down on sugars and carbs. Not drastic changes but I'm avoiding candy, soda, and juice, and keeping my overall grain intake lower. I've also made an effort to add fresh fruits and veggies to my diet. In short I'm not on a "diet" I just made some changes to how I eat and started paying closer attention to how much I eat (small snacks usually of nuts and or fruit instead of muffins and other baked goods, and smaller portions for meals). I've lost 35lbs to date (6' 2", down to 210 from 245). Not a ton of weight but I'm a lot happier where I am. "Diets" generally don't work from everything I've heard and seen you really need to make permanent changes to how you eat and live. It takes some will-power and you'll slip up but as long as you keep to it you'll do fine and you'll feel a lot better!

Yeah, I plan on going the moderate route to start with. I tend to literally get sick if I don't give my body what it needs daily. Chills, Headache, upset stomach, It feels like I have the flu. I pretty much know my limits on how little of certain foods my body requires, I just need to get on a normal schedule and the bike workout is definately helping.

I've lost 40lbs in the last 3 months, the heart attack being the motivation.

I have about 20 more to lose, which will put me right at 200lbs.

I did it by stopping the soda intake, stopping most fast food, almost no red meat. I try to eat 30% protien, 30%(or less) fat, and the rest in carbs. Very little refined carbs. I don't go hungry, I eat about 2000 calories a day and there are days I'm above that, days below that. I also stay away from cholesterol, and sodium. The low sodium is very difficult to do and most days I do well. Less than 10% of my calories come from saturated fat and I find it difficult to make the 30% protien daily.

I also eat every couple of hours. Meal, snack, meal, snack, meal, snack, bed.

I have no excess skin, nor do I see it coming on. Excercise most days of the week, at least 20 minutes, but I try for 45 or more.

I found a website, www.my-calorie-counter.com, where I count my calories and do my %'s. I have been losing about 2 pounds a week for the last month or so, prior to that it came off much quicker. I was losing 1lb a day after my heart attack, while I was off work. All diet changes, I didn't start excercising until about 3 weeks out.
