Introduction from a fellow Clyde

Hi all,

Just found this group a few weeks ago. Been lurking since then but thought it was about time to delurk and say hi. I've been biking for 6 years now (after a 10 year break from it...) Do about 95% road with some other mixed in occasionally. I'm 6'2" and currently run around 260 lbs. I've always been a big guy (at least since college.) About 12 years ago I lost a lot of weight (went from 280-225) and was in great shape. About 220 is about my lower limit so I will always be a clyde. I always find small little bikers hiding behind me in group rides. I can't see them but I can tell they are there because they make comments like "I don't have to peddle back here" or "Where'd all the air go?". On large group rides they seem to like having me on the front for some reason. And noone can understand how I can coast past people going downhill that are pedallling as fast as they can go. :D

Anyway, after lurking here for a while I feel like I'm home. I consider myself an average B road rider and can keep up with most B groups on the downhills and flats. My weakness (isn't it for all of us) is that my weight/momentum tends to dislike going uphill. I tolerate the uphills so I can enjoy the downhills. :roflmao2:

Anyway I thought I'd say hi. I'll probably be bugging you all for some advice later as I'm trying to find a better fitting/more comfortable road bike to replace my 6 year old aluminum one.

Later,

Eric

Thanks for the warm welcome. Gotta admit its great to be able to see other similarly shaped folks sharing biking stories. Most of the people I ride with are lucky to be anywhere near 175 so I'm definitely the odd one in the group. Any other folks near Philly in the herd? Would love to share some road rides with someone that I can actually get a draft from. :)

Here! I'm always looking for someone to ride with. Make it a 'recovery' day, please, since I'm hardly at B pace.

I don't ride often enough right now to differentiate b/w recovery and non-recovery days. I just ride the pace that everyone else is going. I'm actually riding Saturday the 2nd at 3PM from Spring Mill station in Conshohocken if you'd like to join us. Should be at most 4 of us so one more would be fine. Looks like the weather will break later in the day so late afternoon riding is in order. If the weather works out and you feel like joining me look for a big guy with a silver specialized getting out of a blue Audi with a Yakima rack on the roof of it. If not tomorrow then let me know some other time. Would like to meet other fellow Philly area folks.

Later,

Eric

I'm game. Is this ride on the Schuylkill River Trail? Or climbing the hills in Conchy?

See you then. Look for me and my red Trek hybrid:
