10+2 morning Lincoln Clyde ride

So I hopped on for my first "not because I have to go to work, and I also have to pay penance for the Davinci's (local Italian place-lousy authenticity for cheese steaks, except for the bad for you part) cheesesteaks I ate last night ride" this morning. 76 degrees, light wind, mostly sunny. A guy along the way had a stand set up next to the trail that said "Free Cukes" and had some apples and some other stuff on there, so I grabbed two cucumbers on the way back. (I really need to get a camera)

Stopped off at a coffee place near where I work and hung out with the morning riders there for a bit, mostly just listening, drinking my Chai and eating my banana. All in all I did a little over 12 miles-Pretty much my commute round trip with a little jaunt down an adjacent city trail that could be come a loop eventually (the Pine Lake route SUCKS-sidewalk trail with construction on one side and subdivision outlets all over), with a 20 minute break in the middle. I got in the 10 miles I wanted to ride without 8 hours between my in and out, and 2 miles for Bdinger and Shineyville, who had stuff come up this weekend and couldn't ride with me. So, put me on the board for 12.

Sounds like a nice ride!

Weather here in Indiana was great this morning as well. Mrs. Zoxe and I set off this morning to do a ride to the grocery store. It's not that far so we did a lap around the subdivision first, then braved crossing the state road where the store is at. She ran into the store and got our handful of items while I drank a gatorade and guarded the bikes.

I was expecting to head straight back, but she suggested a roundabout way that ended up adding 4 1/2 miles. Was a good country ride, corn on one side of the road and soybeans on the other. Traffic was light so I didn't have to worry about getting pasted.

Then we got home and Mrs. Zoxe made us waffles using her gramma's recipe. Yummy. "Only" 6.2 for us, but was our longest ride yet, and a good way to spend Saturday morning.

Very nice. And yes, you do need a camera. I'm sure any state sharing a name with Bruce Springsteen's bleakest album is highly photogenic. :)

BTW, your cheesesteak was probably pretty good. Contrary to what Philadelphians think, they do not have a monopoly on good cheesesteak sandwiches. One of the best one's I've ever had was in Rockwood, PA, 100 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Funny, best one I ever had was off the back of a roach coach in Central Los Angeles (It sold great fresh Burritos, too!)

I just don't like the bread they use-it's way too soft as a hoagie roll to support all the stuf that goes into it. They don't scoop it out, either. The meat, onions, and peppers are okay, I guess my 'beef' is with the bread. I grew up in Aurora, Ill, so I got to eat 'steaks in Chicago sometimes.

As for being photogenic, well...sometimes I have my moments....NE isn't all bad

For me, Chicago is less about cheesesteak and *all* about Italian beef or polish sausage sandwiches. Man... I need to find me a Portillos around here somewhere now =)

My favorite "path-side stand" i've seen out here in MA was a pair of kids selling lemonade. 50 cents a cup, or a buck to fill your water bottle. Quite the racket!

Evil evil evil person....you had to bring those up, didn't you?

Nice work! What time did you go out?

I actually did head out for a while, but I don't really keep track of mileage (and today, not even time). Up to Old Cheney on the trail that goes out to Wilderness Park, got off and went back around on the road past the State pen, downtown, through some neighborhoods, back home after about 2 hours.

I figure we'll save our meet 'n greet for when at least the 3 of us can get together--hopefully next weekend! But if Ben is still out of commission next weekend, we might as well form a peloton of 2.

I went out at 8, and hit Wilderness Perk around 835-840.

I missed you by a bit--I left at 6, back home at about 8. Then I pulled some fence posts/cement plugs out of the ground, and spent the rest of the sickeningly hot day outside. Oh well, at least the second half of the day was hanging on porches!

We'll do it up next weekend for sure, man.

I did another 25-ish on Sunday, but damn, it was just to hot to stay out for long. We had some triple digits there! I ran the whole length of the John Dietrich/Murdock trails, which I've never been on before, so that was cool. There's a llama farm near the end of the Murdock, so we watched a llama amble around for a while.

Sounds like you guys had a good weekend of ridin'! The Dietrich/Murdock are pretty scenic I too found out, just seems like it takes forever to wind through Lincoln. Either that or I'm just impatient. Probably the latter :).

I should be good to go for this weekend, assuming today's MRI comes back clear. Bloodwork - sans West Nile - has been OK so who knows what the deal is. All I know is that I'm itchin' to get back on the bike!

Shinyville 08-04-08 08:57 AM

This heat has just been horrible. Today is the last day of it, at least, and then we'll start dropping back to the 80s for highs, and even the 70s later this week! That'll be a lot better.
