Hello.
I've been lurking here for awhile and I wanted to introduce myself. At the beginning of June I weighed 220 lbs. I started eating better and paying more attention to portion size. On the 14 of July I started commuting to work which is 11.5 miles away. I've been doing this for 3 days each week. I weighed myself on 21 July and weighed 214 lbs.
I weighed myself today, the 8th of August and am now 210 lbs. In addition to commuting I run on Saturday night doing hill repeats. I've also been to a spinning class and will probably go to a class each week. I rode my bike to work 4 days this week and will probably stick with 4 day instead of three.
My commute is mostly uphill. When I started it took 1:02 minutes to get to work and :45 minutes to get back home. My time to work is now :49 minutes.
I've been thrilled with my progress on the bike so far. My clothes are starting to fit looser, so I'm noticing a difference there.
I'm riding a Kona Jake Cyclocross bike, When I get to 190lbs. I'm going to reward myself with a road bike, so I'm spending time here reading about bikes.
The Clydesdale section has been very motivational to me, so I wanted to introduce myself and say hello and thanks.

Hello! Sounds like some good progress!
One of my coworkers (jokingly) suggested that I shouldn't ride so much because it'll make me buy new clothes. I told him that I was very much looking forward to that expenditure!

Welcome Mitch! I'm new here too, been riding 10-15 miles a day for a month or so getting stamina and nerve to start commuting to work(7 miles one way). I have about a half mile of very busy 4 lane highway to go down, and I'm still wimping out even though I know I can make it easily!
Your weight loss is fantastic, and that sounds like a pretty sweet reward for reaching your goal! You do realize that we'll need pics of the new bike as soon as its home don't you? Keep on pedaling! - Karlo

Thanks everyone,
I'll be very excited to be able to post new bike pics. I'm undecided on which road bike to get but I'm leaning towards either a Giant carbon TCR 2, a Cannondale Caad9, or possibly a felt F75. I realize I'm all over the place with these bike choices, I'm still reading about them and trying to decide.
I'm interested in participating in the various bike events they have here. I just moved to Guam and they have some sort of bike event on most weekends. I'm interested in doing some of those and using my commuting miles as a base to be able to get into some of these events.
Which bike? I still don't have a clue.

I'm a believer in cycling!
I'm now at 198 lbs. I've been steadily commuting to work and eating right, as a result I maintained a healthy rate of weight loss.
I've read a lot of inspiring stories here, so thanks.

Nice! You know I lost 8lbs of water weight one day for a weight loss competition at work. If you did that, you could buy your new road bike tomorrow! But you'd have to sell it back the next day probably! lol

Great start!
Consider using the interim to start shopping for a great used road bike. Time is on your side, and depending where you live, the market could be cooling off a bit.
I like tying goal achievement to rewards. Good plan!!

That always seems to work. Goal and reward. It's sort of transformed into enjoying the lifestyle now. I' m still looking to get a new bike, now mostly due to wanting a more performance oriented bike and not so much as a reward.
Losing 18 pounds has been the best reward along with how I feel. I did reward myself with some new Continental 25c road tires, however. ;-)
I'll eventually sell my Kona jake and probably get a Cannondale Caad9.
But for now, I just like cycling. I'm working toward 185 over the next few months. I believe that 185lbs would be a very healthy weight and a good cyclist weight (6 ft. tall)
But for now, I'll just ride.
