Athena crash and intro w/pics

Hello,

Been lurking about in here and the Commuter thread for the past month and a bit and I wanted to introduce myself and tell you about my first crash on my new bike this morning, 3.5 km into my 18 click one-way ride.

Mostly it was lame and kind of embarrassing on a bit of momentum when the front tire went parallel instead of perpendicular to some pavement - and I was all WTF as Im scraping the MUP with my right side. Checked for bike damage first and got away with pinching the front noodle (#1 in pic) and quick-release noodle holder (#2 in pic):

Road rash on my right leg, foot, and shoulder:

Bike was still serviceable so hobbled 6 km before deciding to ride the bus the rest of the way to work. Cleaned up with peroxide and ointment and am limping about the office for the day. Will take my bike in to get serviced this afternoon.

This is me pre-crash when my bike was still pretty and I wasn't bloody:

I'm pretty lucky to get away with such minor damage, both on me and my bike. The nice thing about today's road rash is that it's on top of another road rash from my teenage years.

Oh hey, Ottawa.

And owww. The toe looks like the worst part. How do you find riding in those sandals usually? Do they have a back strap or are they just a flip flop?

Hi Indie! They're Chaco's and have a back strap. So far, this summer, it's the only footwear that I enjoy wearing. They've been great with all the rain we've been having the last few days.

Thanks Missbumble!

Ouch. At least you've got your crash out of the way - hopefully that'll be it!

I'm still waiting for mine

I'd have happily traded you crash injuries. I hit the pavement at 28 MPH in a standing sprint. Went down so fast I didn't even realize it was happening. A brief moment of squirrely, and then pain and a ringing head, fractured collarbone, torn intercostal muscle (between the ribs), and BAD road rash.

. Good to see you use a helmet!
