Lancaster Pa Covered Bridge Metric

Will any fellow BFers be partaking in this years Covered Bridge Metric Century this Sunday? Myself and vXhanz will be there, if any other Clyde's and Athena's are planning on going I think it would be fun to ride together.

ecfinn 08-12-08 01:22 PM

I'm a new BFer but I'm planning to be there. My brother and I are both Clyde's. I'm on a road-bike and he's on a hybrid. What kind of pace did you have in mind? You doing the whole 65miles? We're planning to register the day of the ride so we can skip it in the event of rain.

We'll be doing the full 65, our pace will likely be +/- 15mph. If you and your brother don't plan on smoking us your welcome to share our company. The first ten miles or so will be at a slower pace to allow the riders to spread out a bit. I ride a red Grand Sport (road bike), vXhans rides a blue Allez Elite (also a road bike).

I rode it last year and enjoyed it! It was my 2nd metric century ever. Unfortunatlely, I can't make it this year. A few members from the local bike clubs are going up for the Covered Bridge. If you see any "Fat Frogs" or "Tidewater Bicycle Assocociation" jerseys, give them a "Hello!"

guybierhaus 08-12-08 01:58 PM

I'll be the guy on black bike with 50+ jersey. I'm in no rush, usually start about 9:00 and ride the 25 miles. Weather as of today, is looking great.

zoste 08-12-08 02:02 PM

I plan on being there, too...but I'm on a hybrid and if I tried to pace 15 mph I wouldn't make a tenth of the ride :) I've ridden 60+ miles on the Schuylkill River Trail/ Perkiomen Trail in about 5 hours twenty minutes which is closer to 11mph (though most of the Perk is gravel).

I'll be on tour. I'm riding from Boston, PA, to Adelaide, just north of Connellsville.

It looks to be a fun ride. Last year I rode 16 miles of it because both Neil F. and Brian J. injured themselves. It's a little hard to ride a metric knowing one of your house guests is in the ER and the other is sitting in your living room reading because he twisted his knee the night before. :)

15 is actually right up our alley for a longer route. I'll be riding with maybe one or two other women but I promise they won't smoke anyone. :-) I ride a silver allez elite (6 years old) and my brother has a silver marin hybrid. Not sure what jersey I'm wearing yet but I'll let ya know closer to the ride. PM me if you want to try and meet before the ride somewhere. We'll most likely be heading out early so as not to waste the entire day. We've got a 1.5 hour drive each way for this ride.

Traditionally there's a Bike Forums gathering prior to the ride. Go over to the Northeast Forum and post to the thread. "ridetonowhere" usually organizes it, including the group photo.

Hi Eric, I plan on getting there about 8am to register. I'll have black shorts with a red stripe and a red and black jersey (red makes you go faster :thumb:)

Shoot me a PM and we'll try and meet up.

vXhanz 08-14-08 07:28 AM

Yeah, I'll be there with Bau. 8am sounds like a good time. I'll probably wear my orange "Fat Cyclist" jersey. Say hello if you're around as I won't be able to recognize anyone by their forum names :)

V / Bau,

I think my little group is planning to be there a bit earlier so as not to have to fight traffic/parking woes. Apparently the later you get there the further you have to park from the start/registration. At this point I think we're shooting to be there at 7:15, but that is subject to change based upon how late my riding partners are that morning.

Will be in touch again once my group agress on timings...

There are usually lots of BF members for this ride...Cheri and I rode last year but can't make it this year.
Anyone who is riding should see these two threads:

Ok, it looks like 7:15 is our designated meetup time. I'll keep an eye out for ya'll. I'll probably be wearing my MS150 team jersey. Its hard to describe but you can see pics here. http://www.roxrider.com Its blue, red, and yellow and rather hard to miss.

Hope to see some of you then.

I'll be there around 7:30, but I'm already riding with 3 friends. I'll be on my red, white and blue Tarmac with my blue and white Specialized jersey.

ecfinn 08-18-08 07:13 AM

Hi all,

Sorry I missed you yesterday. We ended up getting on the road by 7:25 so I think I missed most of you all. Ended up being a gorgeous day for a ride and there were certainly lots of people there who agreed. I ended up doing the whole metric century with an average speed right around 16. Considering my longest ride previously this year was only 33 miles doing 64 was quite an increase.

Eric

zoste 08-18-08 08:20 AM

I managed to average just over 12 mph on my hybrid. This was my first attempt at any distance on the road and I am now convinced that if I'm going to ride on roads instead of MUPs, I'm going to have to get a road bike.

What a fantastic day!

Sorry we missed everyone, V and I started about 8:30, rode the whole 65 with an average speed of 15.8 (counting rest stops and lunch). Good luck finding anyone there if you didn't arrive together :), I'll have to post a picture later as I can't locate the camera at the moment.
