I'm not sure if this allowed, but it might be of use to someone so here goes. There is a set of 40 spoke tandem wheels on the Dallas Craigslist right now. If you need wheels, they are cheap and it isn't my ad. I just happened to see it.

Would they fit a single roadie? I know the spacing on my tandem is 145mm, on Santana tandems I believe 160. A roadie is 130.

I thought tandems were wider in the rear than a single-bike. I assume you could relace them onto a different hub.

Then what would be the sense of buying the tandem wheels if you're going to replace the hubs? Tandem hubs have big beefy hub flanges. If you change them, then they are not tandem wheels anymore!:p

Arent tandem wheels for a roadie a bit overkill?

The big advantage of tandem wheels are the 40 & 48 spoke hubs & rims. Phil Woods makes hubs in both 40 and 48 with 130mm spacing. Linky here.

The ad says they are 26" 40 spoke. The rear is spaced 145mm. The seller is asking $70, and I thought they would make a good set of bomb proof wheels for a mountain bike for someone. Most hubs have removable spacers, so I assumed they could be made to fit a 135mm spaced bike.
