The Black Bear Rampage at the Oocee Water Water Center (near Chattanooga, TN) has a "Burly Bear" class. This is for guys over 240lbs. This is a great opportunity for the real big guys to get a chance to compete.

I need some guys to race my 260lb body against. Even if your not that big, tell your big friends.

Great idea, but I think I'm partial to the "Uber-Clyde" name for the class. Burly Bear isn't bad though, since shaving our legs would just be ridiculous, IMHO

Oh, I give them hell already! I'm 51 and more active than most of them, and they're generally in their mid-twenties! The best exercise they get is keeping the beer cooler in the kitchen during football season!

I work in the lab at a chemical plant, on 3rd shift, also 10 yrs in the Navy on Submarines.

While I don't really work with the production guys, per say, we are a tight bunch, and also the smallest of the 3 shifts. We get along fantastically, but there is little that is sacred when it comes to friendly banter.

You're right, it's when they don't give you hard time that you need to be suspicious, lol.

Cool man! I'm working swing 12's at a chemical plant(but in production). We work with the lab guys as well, and NO ONE is safe, not even the sup's! he he! If there's something that bothers you and someone finds out, it will be rubbed in your face to your dying day. Helps to thicken the skin eventually, I guess!
One of my best friends is a retired Squid. He's working contract at King's Bay now. He can make a lot better bucks there than around this area.

I like the "Clyde" handle for 200 - 299, and the "Uber-Clyde" for 300 and up, and all I need is a jersey so I can wear my Clyde status proudly!

I've seen a couple of adds for blank one color team jerseys. I've thought about trying to get some of my more artistically inclined friends to come up with something.

I've got 46 lbs to go to get to Emeritus status, started at 272, but seem to stuck for right now. When I get a bit beyond that and hold it for awhile, I will definitely have a jersey that just says "Emeritus, One Mile At A Time". Thinking one big Clydesdale hoof on a SPD pedal for a logo.

Until then, the "Slow Moving Freight" orange triangle seems more appropriate, lol.

I LIKE the hoof idea! Believe me, the triangle suits me to a "t" right now! I'm 238, and hungry as a hostage these days, so the weight's not exactly falling off! I've been over 200 since I was 14, so I don't know if I'll ever see emeritus status. Right now, 220's the goal!

Hey, right now my goal is 240, then 230, then......well, just ride is really more my goal and continuing to re-educate myself on lifestyle.

I was always 165-180, depending on time of year, until I was about 35 yrs old, then I started turning orthopedic surgery into a hobby. The weight just piled on, and I bought into the idea that I was physically unable to exercises. I hit my 45th b-day and realized I weighed 272, not good with a bad back and bad knees.

I have some trouble staying on the bike with my knees, would have thought it would be my back, but my doc says there is a lot of wear and tear down there and it will take time to build the muscles to support the knee properly, and there is no damage left to be done, save ligaments, lol.. I also have to accept that there will be pain days, but be aware enough to realize when it needs a break. I'm learning to balance bad days and the miles, and it's getting better.
