Calling all DFW-area Clydes/Athenas
First off, I'm posting this here because those "skinny" people don't appreciate heat as much as we do...
Second, my wife and I are 97% likely to be moving to the DFW area in the next 2 weeks due to a new job.
We are looking at to live in either Haslet, Southlake or Keller. There are a few questions that my wife has asked me to put up here.
1. Any MUPS or bike trails in the area that would be good for a newbie (wife)?
2. Is it always blistering hot?
3. Besides the obligatory hail and thunderstorms, does that area experience tornadoes that often?
Moving from Boulder-area of Colorado to there I know will be a system shock and I hope I make the save.
Case in point for today:
Boulder, CO: 72.1 °F / 22.3 °C Condition: Scattered Clouds Humidity: 67%
Haslet, TX: 86.7 °F / 30.4 °C Condition: Haze Humidity: 41%

I'm a lot further East of your target area in Collin County.
In the Southlake and Keller area you have Lake Grapevine. I'm pretty sure there are some nice paths around there. The entire Southlake area is quite nice and supports an active lifestyle fairly well. I'm doing the Wounded Warrior ride on the 13th in Southlake.
It's not always blistering hot. Many times, overnight, we drop down into the 90's! Just kidding. The best way to describe the weather is we tend to treat the last half of June through mid to late September as the Northern folk tend to treat the dead of winter. The good thing is the early mornings are quite manageable, and once you are here for a transition of winter to spring, and have the chance to acclimate as the heat picks up, you do much better.
The really good thing is that you can ride year round for the most part. What we consider cold you will scoff at, lol.
You should also post over in the Texas forum. I think most of the DFW Clydes and Athenas tend to be more East of you, but there are plenty of Dallas area BF'ers. You have some LBS choices over your way that are reportedly pretty good as well.

I'm originally from the Western Slope (Crested Butte/Hotchkiss) and there have been a few winters down here that have had some impressive moments. I Quote an old Stetson Resistol ad: "Ah...Texas! Where the wind blows so cold off the prairie that parts of a man just disappear." (of course several days after a major Ice storm it can be in the 70's...go figure)
One added bonus to moving down here is the amount of oxygen available. I found that when I first got here and exercised I would get dizzy....turned out I was breathing as normal for Colorado and inadvertently hyperventilating. It took a little while for the body to adjust.
We look forward to having you down here! Let us know when so we can organize a welcoming party.

If your coming down in two weks, you'll love the weather. You missed the summer, so it'll be great up until about next June. I moved from northern Illinios in the end of May in 2000. That was a shock, it was pretty damn hot that first year and I had just bought a brand new pickup that didn't have air conditioning. I remember laughing about that first winter and commuting on my motorcycle through all of December, January and February. All the locals thought I was nuts. By the next year my blood thinned out and I don't ride anymore If it's below 30 unless I have to. There is a short MUP in Grapevine, but I don't think it goes anywhere useful. Just conects a couple of subdivisions to a park on the lake. The Trinity trail in Fort Worth is pretty good though, and a lot of people use it for their commutes.
