Time to replace my bike
hi there - fellow clyde - been riding steady since Apr and down from 281 to 250. But I have used up my bike; a GT Avalanche 3.0 that was a few years old it is literally falling apart ( gears and wheels). I'm looking for a new ride. I am doing more miles now; lots of highway - I have done 100kms 3x this summer - 4-5hrs on the GT. I also do a ride that brings me on a gravel/dirt path for abot 10 kms. I am looking at a Brodie Dynamo. The nearest LBS is 6 hrs from me so I will be calling them to hold a bike for me.
Do you think this bike will be ok for 75 -100 km rides along with hitting the gravel trails as needed. I want to leave the mountain bike genre so I can get a bit more speed, how does this type of bike (commuter )stack up on the long rides.
Thanks
Ken

Hmm, my really quick web search didn't turn up much on Brodi.
Is the Dynamo a commuter or a suspension MTB?
With your terrain, the MTB might be better suited, but most commuters can handle a fairly wide tire which will help with non pavement rides.
The cool thing is, it's new bike time. Always a fun time!

Hi there,
here is a link - hope it works.
I am thinking that this type of bike may be " smoother" than my old mtn. bike for the longer rides I'm startingI'm not ready for the true road bike thing yet though.

Where are you that you're six hours from a bike store?

Sault Ste Marie (Ontario) and area is the closet LBS to me here in the North country. And yep it's 6 hrs away. Thunder Bay is also about 6 hrs. Where I am it's just Canadian Tire and a Walmart an hour away.

I like the look, nice clean lines and not a rolling billboard.
Looks like a nice bike, has pretty good specs too. I have to throw in my recommendation for all flat bar bikes, a trekking bar. Only about $20 and an easy swap if your shifters can just move over.
Looks like a pretty good commuter, possibly a light tourer as well. Sounds like it fits the bill.
