    Off days?

I just went out for a ride, and after a half an hour had to pack it in. I was tired the whole way, got a stomach cramp, and just felt out of it in general. This is the first time this happens to me on the bike. I figure this kind of thing happens, as it used to when weight lifting, jogging, etc. Its just weird to get home, psyched to go out for a ride, and fall flat on your face and disappointed at the briefness of the ride.

You're not alone this happened to me earlier this week too. I was excited to go for a ride (the mind was willing), but after I made a short stop to run an errand I couldn't get back into a groove. One of my knees was sore, I had did hill repeats the previous day and may have done more then I realized. So I bagged my ride after 14 miles. I've had the other experience when I wasn't in the mood to ride, but went anyways and had a great ride.

Sounds like your body was telling you to take a rest day, which isn't a bad thing.

    Off Days

    In a word..YES.
There are days I can keep with the best of em (up to40 miles anyway) and others when an electric motor would be a Godsend.

A few weeks ago I had an incredibly tiring ride but I had to keep on because I was still 10 km from home on a bike trail. By the time I arrived at home I was dizzy with exhaustion and could barely change out of my bike clothes. I think it took me two full bike free days to feel happy enough to ride again. But I was really thrilled about getting back on my bike. If I recall that tired day I rode 36 km on rolling terrain, but I've ridden that distance and longer before so I must've just been tired before I went out.

Of course then there are those days, where you don't want to go, force yourself out there, and have a wonderful ride.....

Problem I have is, that I tend to lose momentum this time of year, the days are getting shorter, the temps are getting cooler, you get more days where wind or rain make it miserable. Right now they are forecasting rain for the next five out of seven days I also have no hope in Hades of getting anywhere near my goal for the year, last year I finished the year with 2057km, I set a goal of 2500km, right now I am at 1137, we set records for the wettest, June, July and August, the prime riding season..... I do want to get a trainer, so that I can get an early start to next year, and salvage a poor season if it does that again.... Also there was only one weekend since last November it didn't precipitate in some form.

Yeah, by Thursday every week, I start to get dead legs commuting. Fridays, I'll throw the bike on the front of the bus and take the bus to campus for a recovery day. Going from class to class, though is short, high intensity fixed gear sprints across campus.
on light duty due to illness; please contact my assistants for forum issues. They are Siu Blue Wind, or CbadRider or the other 3 star folk. I am currently at home recovering from a couple of strokes. I am making good progress, happily.
