Did I ever dream it? Oh heck no. But that's the point, doing something that you would never think you could do by sheer willpower. There is no special pill that can make this happen, only hard work, and believe me it's worth it. The pain, the suffering, it's all worth it.
+1. Heck, +1000.

Congratulations Ben, 135 miles is quite an impressive accomplishment, let alone you doing it in gravel.

Hell, it blows my mind just thinking about it. Glad your 'Long Haul Trucker' done you a good job.

A big Well Done my friend.

Thanks everyone! I wanted to make sure everyone knew I was human, and definitely susceptible to human error/feelings/and challenges.

And.. the next day.. I can't help but thinking of the ride. In all the pain, it was nearly immeasurable fun. I also can't help but wanting to do it again, for reasons I can't exactly figure out.

Also, I was just looking over the results, first in finished the ride in 9 hours. I can't even fathom how, and am more than a bit humbled when I see my 13hr 15min number. Interesting, here are the checkpoint times:
Checkpoint 1 (mile 38): 0836
Checkpoint 2 (mile 56): 0956
Checkpoint 3 (mile 92): 1403
Checkpoint 4 (mile 108): 1556
Finish (mile 135): 1915

My man Oliver had a Garmin, and apparently there was 6,000 feet of elevation gain during the ride. That's lots of climbing the same 100 feet over, and over, and over, and over...

I can't help but think about the next time I'm going to do it. I tried mountain bike racing and it was fun, but nothing like this. This morning I was ready to completely quit, never to ride such a thing again. Now.. I can't stop thinking about the next one, and the training to get me there.

Edit - apparently there was 7,700 feet of elevation gain. Uffdah. Check out my buddy Oliver's motionbased log here:

Looking at that graph just brings back the pain... LOL!

Just read your blog Ben. Unbelievable. What an accomplishment. I've never done that many miles in a day, and I cannot imagine the pain. I'm sure I'm not alone in that I think it would be fun to go riding with you some day.

Yeah....Here I was, thinking, "Woo Hoo! I rode 35 miles Sunday!", then get to read this.
Apparently, I have a way to go before patting myself on the back.

Daaang Ben! You Da Man!

Hey, don't knock it. I've not beaten 30 yet, so 35 looks pretty impressive from way down here
