Saturday ride and pics

Saturday 9/20 and Gina has an excellent day on the 53 miler (17.5 average)! Started at the Anaheim Stadium then up to Gypsum Cyn where we run into Chuck 5.2 and his Madone, I think it's a 5.2! So we pace back towards the coast. A bit breezy but we're holding it at about 18. I'm waiting for Gina to wimper a little, but never does. So after the Honda Center we continue on alone but the breeze kicks up even more. I see acouple of buds ahead so I try to catch them. I push pretty good but hold a pace still waiting for Gina to wimper, but she doesn't. They jump on as we roll by then we push pretty good to the coast and she's looking pretty good!

So we meet up with a few friends for a chat. Lucas (BF'er) Vince (lurker), and Alex (I'm gonna make him a lurker today!). We head back with Alex who is a very strong rider (helped out on one of the SART forum rides) and Vince. I'm pacing Gina as we are 40 miles into the ride with only 12 remaining. Alex goes around with a goodbye greet then picks up the pace. I'm feeling good so a little after he speeds off I pick it up just waiting for Gina to wimper, but she doesn't. Not sure how we caught Alex cause he's a very strong rider but we did. He does long rides so maybe had something to do with being in the later miles. We ride by then he jumps the Beanz Train!

I figure I will do the pull for a while so that he can rest since our stop is closer. I'm actually figuring that I will hold this pace till Gina wimpers, but she doesn't! I'm holding 21-23 mph for about 10 miles now but Gina doesn't complain. I'm waiting for the wimper but only thing I hear is her zip by me on a couple of the small inclines. WTF! So as we approach our stop Alex zooms on down the road into the sunset! I'm still thinking WTF as she says she's not even feeling tired yet! Well I did put new tires on Gina's bike, so maybe I should get me some!....Well it was good day!

BF'er Chuck5.2

Beanz, you take some great photos. You have really nice trails out there. I have a nice trail, but it is gravel most of the way.

Thanks! Yes sir nice trail. It takes a 30 minute drive to get there cause we live inland and this is near/at the coast. When it's 105 here inland, it's only 95 there at the coast!

My wife is in her RN year of school, and will graduate in June. Maybe in a few years she will look into the traveling nurse program and we will be able to see some of these places**********Keep up the pictures, it makes me think of getting out of corn and bean fields. Two more years and my youngest is out of high school. Then a move is possible.

I agree with Epcolt: you do take great pics. Do you and the wife ever take the river trail towards San Bernardino? I also was out on the SA River Trail and I started at the stadium, near the fire training building. I know that you like going toward the coast but I find the part of the rivertrail out in the IE where you live to have nicer roads. They seem to do a better job of maintaining the trail out there and if it was for the heat (like you mentioned), I'd be riding out to Waterman Ave. at least once a week. Do you and the wife ride to Huntington often?

We ride to HUntington justa bout every Saturday and Sunday. Saturday we also started at the firestation (Rampart). But we head to Gypsum CYN, then back to the coast for a 53 mile ride. Then On Sunday, same firestation start to Greenriver then back to HB, and back for a total of 60 miles.

We have been starting at the firestaion area to avoid the heat in the late miles. Heck, you might have seen us there on Saturday, usual start about 9:30-45. Grey Chevy truck.

I have never been on the IE section of the SART. I have no idea where it is. I've posted a few Q's about where to find the length, trailhead, parkinglot, or starting point but nobody seems to respond.

I would like to ride that section but have no idea of length or any of the others mentioned above. I am real surprised that you say the IE section is better maintained. I was on the trail near Market St/Fairmont Park(?)/ Mt Rubidoux quite a few years ago. Not very purty back then!

Any info you can provide about the trail would be appreciated. Maybe I'll make it out there now that the heat is fading!

Maybe I have seen you on SART? What bike? Alone? Hmmm!

Definitely a nice little trail ya got there! Being that I live in san bernardino...this is what I can tell you about the trail- Absolutely nothing lol. Never even seen it before to be honest...but now I suppose I should start looking out for it to see if it's nice or not. I usually just head from my house to Devore in the mornings and back just to get the legs moving a little bit. I found out very quickly that I'm not into climbing this weekend when I did the Santa Paula grade and the Casitas climb in the MS150 ride lol. So needless to say minor climbing is ok for me but I'll stick to the easy stuff for now haha. If you guys ever get out this way on that trail you should let me know before hand and I'll try and meet up with you guys...it's always nice to see a few new faces every now and then

Hey Turbo, we ride up to Devore quite a bit when it's not too hot to ride up here. We ride from Foothill and Grove up Euclid, across 19th, up Sapphire, across Lemon, Hermosa to Banyan then across to Bookman/Woodward(?), Cherry to the 15 fwy and up along to the gas sation on Sierra and the 15. Sometimes to Glen Helen/Pavilion. I'll keep my eye out for you.

About 40 mile roundtrip.

Sounds like a nice ride mr beanz...one of these days when I have a few extra minutes I might venture down a little farther towards sierra way. I need to visit Hector's bike shop here shortly to get my routine checkup done on the Giant and get some adjusting done on it at the same time so I'm sure I'll probably see you guys one way or the other

Mr. Beanz, You can pick up the trail at the north end of Tyler Street in Riverside. It actually begins off of Arlington- about a mile west of La Sierra but there is about a quarter of a mile of unpaved area that isn't fun to ride through. The Roubidoux stretch still isn't very pretty, but the trail is a big change and it doesn't get as congested as the Orange County section. There are a lot of riders, just not as many. There's not much to look at in most of the areas but it's fun to have a change of environment every once in a while. Still, the trail doesn't need constant maintenance like the OC section. I believe that from Tyler St. in Riverside to Waterman Ave in San Berdoo is about 20 miles one way. We may have seen each other before by the firestation near Angel Stadium. Is your the truck a raised grey Chevy truck? I see that one quite frequently. I drive a light blue Toyota Previa minivan with a "Share the Road" license plate frame on the back and I usually park in the Medical Building parking lot across the street from the entrance to the bike trail. My van is usually parked under the trees in the shade. I will be out there this weekend for sure. My new Velocity Deep Vs are taking some getting used to being that they are quite a bit heavier than the Neuvations I'm used to riding on. Still, I will make my initial Santa Ana bike trail voyage this Saturday on these wheels. Hope to see you out there.

Turbocruiser, the Santa Ana Trail begins at Waterman Ave, about a block north of Hospitality Way. You'll see a Sizzler and a hotel (Quality Inn, I believe) on the west side of Waterman. On the north end of the hotel's parking lot, off of Waterman Ave, is the beginning of the Santa Ana River Trail. Great part about it is that Riverside and San Bernardino Counties are planning to extend the trail from the foot of the mountains in Highland to the north and through Norco and Corona to connect with the current OC entrance at Green River Road on the south side. The goal is to have the trail go from the mountains to the sea uninterrupted. Here's more on it:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santa_A...r_bicycle_path

Also check out Bikely.com and you can get an aerial map of the trail as it goes through San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

Thanx for the info! .......MY truck is grey but stock shortbed Silverado. Mad_One (riding buddy) has one exactly like it except that it is the kingcab. Nothing raised though!....Hope to make it out here this weekend but not sure yet, maybe another rt this weekend.
