Fixed gear to blow through platue?

Soooooo. Around 6000 miles ago (can't check exactly bike journal is down :( ) I weighed oh exactly what I weigh today. Same measurements same all that. I guess I just eat too much broccolli and spinach to lose weight with all the riding I do ;)

I don't think a fixed gear will get me riding more but perhaps it will be a good alternative form of riding/training and maybe be a little more strenous and help build some muscle mass? I was on my merlin road bike last night for a quick trip to drop a note on someones car and avoided shifting on the way to/from and it worked pretty well. Kept a nice high cadence and didn't have any problems. I think I was in 42x16 or so but I did coast occasionally because I could.

I was thinking of getting a Windsor Clockwork (in orange of course) which has front/rear brakes. As an added bonus, and I know I couldn't use the windsor for it since it has brakes, there is a nice velodrome about 30 miles from my house that a bunch of people ride track bikes on so I could eventually put the riding to good use. I even know at least one person who is a fellow recumbent rider who is going to do track again so I'd have someone I knew to go out and say hi to.

You just want a new bike. Go for it and remove the brakes when you go to the track. If you want to break through the plateau, burn more calories than you take in. I've plateaued too and I ride a FG so I'm trying to increase the workouts to increase the calories burned.

Apparantly riding my recumbent no longer burns calories or does such at such a low rate they don't count, or maybe all the bugs I eat cancel it out. I have been pretty good on fit day tracking calories and have decreased my calorie intake slowly with no results. Maybe trying to train for track with some kind of training schedule will burn help burn some more calories.

I'll probably be seeing a nutritionist again soon maybe they can see something I am doing wrong.

The problem with wanting a new bike right now is I can't get anything I want for a long ride fast bike. I exceed all the weight limits by a good deal for any of the recumbents that are on my list.

You're still eating too much. How many calories do you eat now? I'm eating 2000 or less a day and loosing easily. And what are you drinking? Water is great. Fruit juice has a ton of calories, as do sodas.

ev, be sure to know your bike measurements before you order online...

One thing to note is that you should get at least 1 size smaller track frame than your road frame due to the longer reach to the drops on a track bike.

And forget about standover height as a basline for the frame size, that goes out the window once you measure from the saddle to the drops!

In my case, I can ride a 57 old school road bike frame, a 54 newer size compact frame, and as smalls as a 53 compact track bike frame with most of them having just about exactly the same measurement from saddle to drops!!!

Good luck. =)

My average for the last 4 weeks is 1875 before that I never averaged above 2300 a day in a week for the few months I've been tracking except on special days such as I don't want to bonk/cramp on a 200k in the middle of nowhere days.

Ridden an average of 2 hours, 27 miles per a day in those 4 weeks.

I haven't drinken any soda or fruit juice in any great quantity for a while only water and lots of it. Once and a while when I stayed late I used to get a little snack or soda (vending machine dinner) but avoiding that became alot easier when they stopped putting anything in any vending machines :thumb:

In that case, your body is likely used to the diet and exersize. Time to change it up and do some serious interval training.

A little story of what is going on in my setup of bike commuting.

I have a fixed gear with 32 mm tires gearing 85 gear inches.

I have ridden this setup for a week, since i was trying not to get flat tires and besides I am commuting with my boss. (high speed not a factor)

The bike , after the tire swap from 25's, feels like pushing an old raleigh with balloon tires.

Today boss had an appointment and he did not commute, so i took my Fuji road bike out.

I shaved 8 whole minutes from my previous 46 minute commute.

Even going slower on the fixed gear with the new wider tire setup, it took me a bit of effort even be close to the speeds i am used to ride.

That extra effort translated in results in the geared bike.

Does it make any sense to you?

(my legs have not been this sore in a while)

I've read where intervals and sprints can boost the HGH levels in your body. Might be something to try.
