My new Lemond Buenos Aires

I bought a 2007 Lemond Buenos aires at a closeout price yesterday. I have been looking at Road bikes for months now and the oportunity to get a CF bike with good components for less than $1800 seemed too good to pass up. Does anyone have experience with the Buenos Aires? I'll try to post pictures as soon as my camera is charged up.

I bought an '06 Buenos Aires this Spring from the LBS for $1400, they were eager to get it off the floor to make room for new models. I realy like the bike. Very smooth and the mostly Ultegra components shift very smoothly and run super quiet. I've very much enjoyed the longer rides on the "new" road bike. The geometry of the LeMond seemed to work very nicely for my body shape. As a bonus I realy like the classic color scheme.

Now that LeMond as a bike brand has officially been terminated (the web site has been turned off), I saw that Trek has added lower to mid level road bikes under their Gary Fisher brand. These bikes are either all aluminum or have carbon stays at best. When Trek started out with the LeMond brand, it covered the entire spectrum from lower end to high end bikes. Later Trek in conjuction with Lance Armstrong developed high end bikes and now they had two brands that now much overlapped 100%. With the Gary Fisher bikes they are clearly leaving the higher level bikes 100% to Trek. From what I saw on the Gary Fisher site, the color schemes are pretty garish by my taste, but who knows it may sell well.

No matter what happended to the LeMond brand in 2008, I still love my '06 and will hopefully be able to enjoy it for years to come. As a small side bonus, it is nice to know that the bike was made in Wisconsin. I know a large part of what I buy is made elsewhere in the world, but it is nice when you can get some high quality goods that are made "locally".

Happy riding,
André

Less than $1800? Like $1799?....Kind of high since I know 2 others that have picked up 07's (red and white) for $1300!

Nice bikes but the wheels are, like most stock bikes, the weak link.

I think you'll be very happy. I have an '07 Zurich. Same frame, mostly the same components. The frame rides very nice. I'd have to agree w/ Beanz on the weakness of stock wheelset.

I'm sure that lot's of folks have bought them cheaper. Gimme a break Beanz, I live in the middle of nowhhere I had to drive seventy miles to buy a bike at less than list price. Three months ago I didn't know what a poseur was, now thanks to you guys I am one. Got a beautiful bike and don't have a clue. I finally got to ride it this afternoon and it shifts so smooth I wanted to cry. I was about to buy a Trek 1.5 for $1100 and this Lemond is a big step up. So far I'm loving it and laughing at how hard you guys would be laughing at this clueless, fat old man on the pretty bike.

As long as you ride the bike, you're not a poseur. Enjoy your bike! Don't worry about what others think of you. I have an '07 as well, albeit a Versailles. The Lemond geometry is what really sold me on mine, but they also are really really comfy for riding long distances.

My hubby has the red/white 07 Lemond Buenos Aires...and he LOVES it. Although at 165lbs, he's not exactly a clyde, so the stock wheelset suits him just fine...for now. FWIW, he also bought his bike as an end-of-season closeout back in March. I think he paid $1,695 for it.

Mine is the red/white too although I have a hundred pounds on your husband and at 66 am probably old enough to be his daddy. I just came back from the monthly meeting of my bike club and lucky for me we've got a good wheel man in our club and he will keep my wheels OK. the owner of my LBS is not as experienced or as knowledgeable as some so having a good wrench in the club is really helpful. I've only been able to ride a short time so far but we're gonna do 25-30 miles in the morning and I'll get to work out some of the kinks in both me and the bike.. the few minutes I got to ride this afternoon were really sweet. I've been doing group rides with a Navigator since August and the Lemond weighs half what the Navigator does and shifting is so smooth I just can't believe it.

Well...seeing as both my hubby and I are 43, I'll take that as a compliment. The last ride we did was last Sunday...rode 56 miles, which is way less than our usual 70-80. But it was windy that day, and wind saps the energy right outta me. They're calling for cold temps and snow flurries this weekend, so we will probably revert indoors to spinning class at the gym. The older I get, the less I can tolerate the cold. Yeah, I'm a wimp.

Enjoy your new bike!

Buddy's new bike. 200 lb rider on same bike. I won't make any comments on the non stock rear wheel cause you don't want to hear it!...But IMO, the LBS that overcharged you $500 should have provided a back up set!.....Don't kill the messenger!

If you buy something and are happy with what you got for the price you paid, then by definition you got a good deal. That doesn't change unless your opinion changes and you suddenly start thinking you overpaid. You ride it, you like it, you are happy, all is good. Think happy thoughts.

My friend also has a red/white 07 Lemond Buenos Aires. He loves his bike and also paid about $1800 from lbs. He longest ride has been a 75 mile ride, part of central Floridas ms150, and has not had any issues with his rims. He is prob 5' 10" and 220 pounds so not bad i guess. It is a few models above my bike so I wouldn't mine having one.

I did see a Zurich (next level up, grey and silver Ultegra bike) on sale for $2000. By the time I received my tax return, I changed my mind, 8 bikes is enough! Same frame differ color, I really like 'em!

This is exactly like mine only a much better photo than the one I took. And all the folks who are trying to defend me from "MEAN OLE YOU' need to just calm down. I'm not that tender! I've got a new bicycle and no amount of ribbing is going to stop me from smiling IT'S ALL IN FUN FOLKS, RELAX.
A bigger problem for me is that I've been off the bike for 3 weeks due to surgery and since everything went so well on my first ride yesterday I overdid it today. Fortunately my friends were very supportive and helpful when I bonked at 40 miles. Beanz my problem so far is not with the wheels but with the saddle. Going for a fitting next week

I'm not sure how much of my saddle issure is with the saddle and how much is the change in position. After riding on the Navigator sitting virtually upright the road bike is a pretty radical change. I'm confident I will get used to it and I'm loving the ride. But the saddle begins to bother me before anything else and probably is related to my oversize posterior. The size of my behind is coming down but maybe not fast enough to make my ride comfortable.

We tend to be dominated by Specialized, Bianchi, especially Trek, and Felt around is town. Is LeMond still available now that their deal with Trek is off? (Those are attractive!)

I went through some aches and pains switching from the Navigator to a flat bar road bike. It took about six weeks to get through them.
