Down to 266.8. That's a 1.2 drop I believe. Three weeks of loss in a row, averaging about 1 lb per week! Woohoo! Made it to the gym 5 times and kept my weekend eating under control.

I'm real close. 5 pounds to go. It's coming off slower and slower now. I can remember when I started it was falling off at 5 pounds a week for the first 3 weeks. Then slower and slower. Some weeks are real frustrating when nothing happens. Others it goes quick. But now, sheesh. It's getting more and more difficult. I'm actually considering cutting back a little bit more than I have been.

I also haven't been riding as much. My wife has been having to go into the office and I haven't been able to get out as much. So I spend time on the trainer. But 45 minutes on the trainer isn't 36 miles outside on the road. So I haven't been burning as many calories. That said, I have the tension set on my trainer to mimic a 6% climb. That is helping a LOT. I climbed a mile long 9-10% grade on Saturday without having to stop and breath. And last week I did a mile long climb that started at 7% and ended at 14%. So I am continuing to improve my conditioning. I'm planning to get some spinerval type video's and maybe a race video to watch while I'm on the trainer. That seems to help keep me motivated. The HR monitor helps too, especially on the trainer.

I hope my knee stops hurting soon. My seat slipped about a cm. Amazing how much a difference that makes. When it's at the right height, my knees are trouble free. When it drops a little, OUCH. It feels like tendonitis. I'm considering putting on a knee brace to see if it helps. Actually, I think I will. I have one around here somewhere.

Well, thanks in no part to effort, and more to the stomach virus that sidelined my appetite all weekend, I lost 2 more pounds to come to 256.0.

250.4 lbs, Nov 17th! Down about 5-6 lbs. from when I started some heavy riding about a month ago. Sometimes my scale reads as low as 246. I don't know if it's because my weight is fluctuating, or if the scale is inconsistent. My wife thinks it's the scale. My pants definitely feel a little better, and I need to put another hole in my belt.

Going out now to clean the garage so I have more room to work on my bikes. May not ride until tomorrow because the air here in L.A. is still full of smoke and soot.

Weight does tend to fluctuate day to day, even during the day. If you're sure to do your weigh-ins at the same time of day, and preferably after the same sorts of daily activities, then you have a more accurate personal record by avoiding weight changes that happen at various times of day.

That's a great point. I've taken to weighing myself first thing in the morning after I wake up.

I do the same thing, but only on Mondays after my morning routine. I couldn't stand to weigh myself every day, my weight fluctuates too much through out the week depending on my excercise and associated water intake level.

A few weeks ago, I did a little experiment and weighed myself every hour for an entire day. I think I lost about 8 pounds over the course of the day. This was the day after a big work out and a night out. But, even so, I was very surprised to see that I was holding about a gallon in water weight.

As for my weigh in this week, I'm at 338.2 this is down from last week, but still higher than my starting point. I found where the extra pounds came from though, I'd started slipping off my diet with out realizing it. It was all that left over halloween candy, I'd been snacking on that instead of my healthy stuff. I've also noticed that if I don't stand in just the right spot on my scale it will read a bit low. Combine that with a couple weeks of junk and there's my mystery pounds.

The book's coming along ok but slowly, guess I just don't know how to write fast I really like the idea though, and will be sticking with it.

    See you all next week.

167.1 this morning. Up from last week, not sure why. I'm going to say just a fluctuation or water retention.

I did the 2 videos and made one visit to the community center where I rode the stat bike for 40 min. (thank you, Keith, for iCycle 4!) and walked 20 min on the treadmill. Also did the UB weight machines except for biceps.

Biked 44 miles this week with longest ride 18 miles. Just too windy for me; I'm a fair weather cyclist.

A few thoughts on the fluctuating scales and daily fluctuations...

If your scale is finicky about where you stand, take a sharpie and trance an outline of your feet in the spot that seems most accurate. Then you will always stand in the same place. Daily weight fluctuations can be very drastic as noted here; I vary some days upwards of 7 or 8 lbs, more if I overindulge. Try to be consistent in when you weigh yourself and also what you wear to weigh in. jeans can add a couple lbs alone. Not to be gross but I weigh myself in the morning after my morning bathroom visit.

A side note on slips and overindulging, your body can take a slip without it affecting the overall week much if it’s just a onetime thing (i.e. I had to have seconds that meal was soooo good). The metabolism keeps going at the same rate and most (not all) of the excess just passes through. The problem occurs when you have multiple days of slips. The metabolism will begin to change after a couple. This is an observation and my take on what a nutritionist told me once. She said that metabolism and the way your body processes/stores calories are affected most by the few days prior to any given day. So a single mess up of epic pro- portions (puny!) has less impact than several smaller ones over several days. It seems to hold true from my experiences.

Just my thoughts, take them with a grain of salt. Not too much though, don't want to mess up your water retention.

    peace
